Watched UFC 54 last night. Thought the knockout with the flying knee was class.

I thought st peirre (spelling?) was class against trigg.
Couture looked a bit tired (so did van ardale).
Chuck dominated Jeremy Horn. Did Horn get one punch in?

I was wondering though if the guy that got flying knee'd was ok and also the guy with only 1 pec was taken out in a stretcher after getting kicked by Silva. (11% body fat my arse)

Isn't the commentator thats on with that Rogan guy just soooo annoying.

Am I right in saying there was only one tap out by submission aswell?

I saw another guy tap out but he was just being punched around.

I knew Jeremy Horn would get destroyed. Chuck had an excellent sprawl. It was superb to watch. (Anyone else notice he had a Kempo tattoo?)

I think that body fat should of been 110% not 11%. But at the end of the day he won. Proves it's not physique but techinque that wins it.

Hes six foot eight! His techique is hit him with leg!

    Omg!!! High Kick!!!!!

And the Kempo is strong in Liddell!!

He hit the guy so hard he couldn't see!!
Now I want Couture and Lidell to fight to the death!!!!!

I want Randy to retire. He's hands are getting sloppy and he's getting slower. if he re-rematches with Liddell again and keeps his hands low like that, he's going to get knocked out.

I wasn't really that impressed, st Piere-Trigg was great to watch, as was the
Silvia-Talligman fight. Randy certainely wasn't at his best. I suppose the Diego Sanchez fight was pretty good too but we saw nothing of Gassaway.

I was really surprised to see Jeremy Horn be beaten so badly, the times I've seen him fighting in the past he was excellent standing up and on the ground, but it was a bit stupid to try stand with chuck after the first big knock down.

Did anyone else want to see the Matt Lindland fight?

I saw the Matt Lindland fight, it was decent.

did you hear the post fight comments? - i know that he is getting slated as a whinge-bag - i half think that he is hamming up a'bad-guy' personality - either way, i think he shot himself in the foot

The greasing comments? Yes. Meh, I can understand why he's pissed. He's be owed a title shot for a long time now. That whole terrell thing messed him up.

I'm relatively new to watching the UFC and I thought it was an exciting card. Looking forward to the next UFC event. Does anyone know how long Bravo have secured the rights to televise UFC PPVs?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

It was initially a 2 or 3 event deal but they've obviously been successful with it. I see Bravo airing it for a considerable amount of time.

I would imagine til UFC secure a PPV over here which seems a while away yet.

now it seems that zuffa are looking into releasing him from his contract - the reason being that his sponsorship deal with sportsbook breaks some rules - funny not a mention of cutting randy or tanner - or any team quest member if that is the reason

p.s. - the released salavery from his contract based on his fight againsed marquart

Yes I know cmb. Salaverry pissed Dana off being layed back in the main event for UFN.

I'm disappointed to hear that, I like Trigg. I know he's been beaten by Hughes and GSP but theres no shame in that. They are both top class fighters and he gave Hughes a right run for his money.

The UFC has a distinct lack of personalities on their roster in comparison to Pride and could do with someone like Trigg to spice things up. They have already gotten rid of Baroni to Pride. Ok he lost a few fights but he's always entertaining to watch. I love when he jumps up on the cage, I'M THE BESTHT, THE ****ING BESTHT!

    Classic comedy at its best.....

triggs release is no suprise to anyone - was aware himself that he would be released if he didnt win - where do you go with him - he was well beaten twice by the champ and dominated by st pierre

lindlands possible release bothers me greatly - the question is wether this is a legitimate sport or is it the wwf - if it is legitimate then its about who is best - lindlands fights tend not to be the most exciting for most people - true - but like couture he shuts his opponents down and makes them fight his game - and wins - which i always thought was the point of the excersise - to criticizw this would be like critisizing liddell or siva for wanting to punch their opponents in the face - his three losses were against a superior bustamante, a freak self inflicted ko and a terrells ko - which no one can really read much into - he got caught - it happens - and they rushed terrell and he wasnt able for the experience when it really came down to it - not having a go at him - i blame zuffa for yet again rushing fighters and robbing them of their potential -

fact is that zuffa are scared of lindland as their champ for markrting reasons and - if the story is true - are using some loophope regarding sponsorship to get rid of him - funny how they dont seem to be going after buentello, tanner couture - or anyone from team quest etc all if that was their genuine motivation

The Trigg/St. Pierre fight was excellent. GSP is excellent, he like the new Vitor ( when he taking roids! ). He completly dominated him. He was winning the strikin ( although they were only on there feet for about 30 secs ).

Lindland was slaggin off TUF also, bit of a gob****e for doin that, anyway he's a borin fighter but he deffo deserved a title fight.

Horn got battered, funny though in Chucks last 2 fights he's managed to strike the opponents eyeball!!! Hmmm. The right cross he landed to horn's eye socket looked nasty. Horn should move to 185 and fight franklin. He's strikin was pretty tight but he wasnt doin anything major. He landed some EXCELLENT leg kicks. He also got some stiff jabs in, chuck had a blackeye in the interview with Rogan. Horn was good at shakein off the knockdowns but he looked scared to trade untill he started landin the leg kicks.

Diego Sanchez in a great character, the oul strikin doesnt look the may west. Cant say much for the guy he was fightin.

I have to agree with whoever said couture was tired. I thought the fight was great though, Im not a grappler but i'd say any wrestlers out there loved it. Lots of position changeing and stuff.

Silva looked ok. was very suprised with the Kick ko. Poor Talligman, Dana white is just wheelin him out to basically get his ass kicked IMO.

St. Piere though is a legend, excellent top control. Liked when he called out Matt Hughes. Its a pity BJ isnt still there. Imagine BJ vs St. Pierre, would be excellent.

The card was good but it seems any event outside Vegas isnt as good if you get me. Hope they raise the bar with the next event. Still good to watch, thank god for bravo!!!!
