OFCOM sets LLU and WLR prices for BT

According to ENN OFCOM has set the new pricing for WholesaleLineRental and LocalLoopUnbundling:
Ofcom's statement sets out how BT, which owns the only network in the UK that covers virtually all of the population, should charge competing businesses for access to its infrastructure. Under the new limits, BT can charge wholesale rates of STG58.51 a year to customers renting one of its copper lines, or STG60.11 a year for "unbundled local loop" access, where the wholesale customer has more control over the line.

I can't seem to find the news on the OFCOM site, but the new price limits would confirm what was in the OFCOM consultation paper:
"However, Ofcom considers that a reasonable estimate of costs for the parts of the copper loop considered within the scope of this exercise to be the following, for the financial year 2005/6:
WLR – £58.51 per line; and
    LLU – £60.11 per line."

Full local loop unbundling for ST 60.11 or €90.41 per year or
    € 7.53 per month is an eye-opener.

That's for accessing a copper network where a near 97% of customer lines are capable of dsl!

ComReg have fixed the full LLU price at € 15.67 per month, fixed for the next three years (or do they even allow a yearly inflation index increase?); for accessing a copper network that only has 60% of lines capable to carry dls. And the LLU process is not even working yet.

    Ditto with WLR price.

ComReg are not part of the solution, they are part of the problem.

What it is with Ireland eh?, we just never seem to get it right. Twice the price of the UK with significantly fewer capable lines, how do they expect to stimulate the market with prices like these?

Until our Government stops pandering to big business we will never see any real progress on matters like these. Big business runs this country, not FF.
