Ankle treatment

Hey for as long as I can remember I have had trouble with both my ankles.... could be walking down the street and will twist it if the path is anyway uneven.....
anyway was on hols there last week, and while running for shelter in a thunder and lightning downpour hurt my left ankle - it was ok that night (thanks to the amount of alcohol in my system i suppose) but then the next day it completely seized up! was very painful to put any weight on it for a day or two, but thanks to lots of Nurofen it was OK after that.
So think I was overcompensating for it with my right ankle cause when I got off the plane that one was extremely swollen!! It also has these really weird red dots around my ankle??
Took about 3/4 days for the swelling to go down, this time I didn't take any Nurofen, just lots of Difene gel that my mother had and an ankle support.
So anyway at the moment, left ankle seems to be fine, right ankle very stiff and painful (especially in the morning!), so still wearing the support.
So by question being, can I just go get an x-ray in Casualty in the hospital or do I need a note from my doctor??
Or would I be better off just going for Physio? Or would I need a referral from my doctor for that too??

Doctor first he'll probably send you for an xray anyway. Might be worthwhile to go to one with experience in sports injuries as they'd sort it out faster. Also have a look at your shoes that might be making things worse.

Well when I hurt it on hols I was wearing flip flops so that probably did play a part in it.
But normally live in runners/hiking boots (except on nights out of course when I wear kitten heels/ heels no higher than an inch and a half!).

Might just be that the muscles and tendons in you ankles are a bit weak and get damaged easily, ask the doc for some advice on strengthening up the area after you've recovered
