Anyone know if sky plan to use the new Pace PVR3 with a 160GB HDD (of which only 80GB is used for recordings) for all future installs in Ireland? And if they are, when? Seems to be a lot more reliable than previous boxes from the sounds of it over on digitalspy...

um can you explain this alittle, I’m a sort of lost here (and drunk)
Is it not 80 Hrs recording you get from 160GB? (well thats what I get from mine)

You are only allowed to record on 80GB, the other 80GB is reserved for future use.

It's available now. I got mine last Thursday. I had an engineer call out to fix my box and he replaced it with a PVR3 with 80 GB wrote on the box on the outside. I presume it was brand new.

80 gb for future uses. i am seeing a scenario where one version of the Sky+ box will be able to do stuff the older ones wont

for "Future Use" read "paying 150 quid for Sky to send an activation signal to unlock the other 80GB". IBM used to do it with low end mainframes actually being high-end ones with bits turned off, and a little French guy with a handbag came out to enable the turned off stuff when you paid for them...

The plan as I understand it is that 'Box Office' movies and events will be automatically recorded on the other 80Gb. This means that box office will be available to start at anytime. I presume it will only record these if you aren't already using the 2 tuners.

Anyone know what happens if you upgrade the HD (If it is even possible?)

From what I read on DigiSpy, I understand it will format the drive into two partitions, and you will get the total capacity of the drive less 80GB for use for recordings. So a 350GB drive will give 270GB space for recording...
