See, its partially mental association - being a guitarist, i see that and think of "Vincent" by Don MacLean :)

ahh well here's a nice one for a guitarist then! ;), the colours are really nice in it too.

Ophelia by Sir John Everett Millais is one of my favorites. Quite a few artists painted how they saw Hamlet's Ophelia. http://www.mythicalrealm.com/legends/ophelia.html

that's a nice one Larianne, love the mythical Shakespearean theme- and the colours are in keeping with that, all the mute greens/ browns, it's kind of an eerily picture seeing her floating there in the water, but a nice painting all the same. is it done in oils?

I don't know tbh, snorlax. I just remember seeing it in an art book and thought it was great. It really captures the whole does she knows she's drowning, letting it happen etc.. from the play.

its really cool the way every single painting is so different, i mean even looking on that website, all the different artists painted her completely differently, it's why i love art, every piece is original and unique even if it's supposed to be the same subject

    Nighthawks is nice
    HOPPER, Edward:

And how could I forget that print by Hokusai -
In the Well of the Great Wave off Kanagawa
There is actually a photograph of a wave in that harbour like that, and part of the wave line matches the shape of Mount Fuji

for an even simplier image - The Scream by Edvard Munch

Its so famous it doesn't need a picture here. Everyone will immediately recognise it ---- Irish Artist, Jim Fitzpatrick's portrait of Che Guevara

Is it not ok to comment on a thread that hasn't had anything on it for a while? I thought it was ok cos it wasn't as if I was answering something that someone needed an immediate or almost immediate reply for. I know that also when there is a discussion on finance, these things have to be up to date and relevant. But I only just saw this thread and decided it would be ok to rev it up again by putting in what I did. If it isn't ok to do that, would it not be better to delete topics that no one has commented on in perhap a year or so.? Sorry if I in my ignorance, did the wrong thing. That is why I haven't used this site in ages. !!! :o

Well it might be a ghost thread but its a nice, peaceful, inspiring (can it be both of those at the same time?) idea and when I can root up a favourite I will post it.

Generally it's better to create a new one if nobody has posted in 6 years.. but it's fine!

Favourite - I don't have any specific one, would be too difficult to narrow it down! Even type changes regularly!
