IR remote control software for pc

    I've lost the remote for my tv, and as a result cannot launch it into EXT in order to view use my PS2 :(

    I'm looking for software that'll use the ir port on my laptop to send the necessary signals to the tv. I've found loads of them for use on PDA's - problem is if I don't have a PDA handy rightnow - it's porbably drinking mai thai's on a sunny beach somewhere with the tv remote - anyway, I guess such software must exist.

    Anyone know of such software? Of course it needs to be shareware or freeware..

    would it not be easier to buy a universal replacement remote? Like this for example?

    AFAIK so such software exists for any platform other than Windows Mobile (PPC). Perhaps theres a linux knock-off, but I havent found it yet. Furthermore, I dont think its even worth considering, pda's have a greater distance for IRDA than laptops, laptops usually have megre - even useless IRDA ports, I think the max range on most is 3-8ft and even at that its a stretch.

    I would just get myself a universal remote, much easier.

    It was just going to be a temporary solution - as in over the next few days - it was more a curiosity than a necessity..

    so the query still stands..

    *ps: google the following: pocket pc tv remote, tonnes of links to pocket pc based apps..
