What type of recordable DVDs to buy?

    Hi,

I am buying this DVD player and am just trying to figure out what DVDs to buy for it - it writes both DVD- and DVD+ (dual layer) but I have no idea what the difference is between those two and which one to go for. I reckon a DVD with standard storage (don't reckon I need dual layer) would do.

    Anyone have any idea?

    Thanks,

I know you might think i'm talking ****e... but it matters HUGELY what ones you buy. Two rules.

    1) Never buy DVD's unless you are 110% sure you know what media code they are.

    2) Only buy dvd's when you have read good reviews about that particular media code!

For example my last batch of 100 discs were the "MCC 003" media code: Datawrite Printable (8x) , and i've had no problems with them. The batch before (can't remember what media code they were) but they were utter bolax. They burnt fine, but corrupted within weeks. So far i've had no corruptions on these bad boys.

Now for the personal opinion: DVD+R's are better, because less manufacturers make them, and therefore there is slightly better quality control on them. My only batch of DVD-R's were the dodgy discs, and so far 2/3 batches i've bought were DVD+R's and they're all going strong. But DVD+R are slightly more expensive.
