Ah yes... I remember that little grey box... I brought it back out recently and was amazed at how some of the games are still so entertaining..

best game for me was Super Mario Bros. 3.. the first game, I believe, to introduce the concept of a map.. so cool.. with all those different suits.. the hammer suit.. the frog suit.. so cool..

also had Mario 2.. which was weird because it was nothing like the other games.. it was originally a japanese game but they just pasted Mario Characters over it..

Duck hunt.. Adventure Island.. ah yes...

anyone else have any fond memories of the NES?

world cup '90 was one of the best football games ever. you could play on ice!! and if you fouled players enough, they'd die and leave their gravestone on the pitch. (still not sensible soccer though!)

also, hardest game ever - probotector aka contra. dont think i even got passed the first level! great tho!

    the control pads were great

Weird, I was just thinking of one of my favourite NES games the other day - Rescue: The Embassy Mission.

Also SMB3, Zelda, Faxanadu, Megaman 2, Double Dragon, Turtles, Castlevania, Marble Madness...

My favourite game was Mario bros. 3 Fantastic platformer that is in my opinion only beaten by it's sequels Super Mario World. Never liked Mario bros. 2

The 2 Contra games were very good as well. Not great conversions but playable nontheless.

Absolutely adore the Megaman games especially Mega Man 2. It looked almost 16-bit and had a soundtrack that made the Nes chip sing. It is still the best of the series and one of the best games ever.

Of course there was zelda, still an amazing game.

Loved Simons Quest but it has aged badly. Castlevania 3 Draculas Curse on the other hand is as good today as it always was. A triumph of gameplay over aesthetics. It is only slightly inferior to Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on the PCE and Symphony of the Night of Saturn and PS1.

It also had some fantastic arcade conversions of shmups the best of which was Lifeforce, a remix of the japanese Salamander.
