Autotyper. A tool I used many moons ago for sw testing, You basically put a bundle of commands into a file and it would then carry them out, the commands were like, press enter, tab 4 times, etc, basically reproduced your keyboard actions, and allowed and compaired screen shots, very handy as a report could be generated very quickly when compaired to asking a person to do it. Has anyone come across anything like it, or know where to get it?

There's a rather nifty (free) tool called Autoit (http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/index.php) which you can program to do things like click certain locations, or send key presses after either time delays or if a window with a particular title pops up for example. It's quite well featured to the extent that people used use it to cheat at mmorpgs by reading health bars by scanning colours at certain locations, and attacking or resting based on the output.

    Pricey one is Automate ( http://www.networkautomation.com/automate/ )

But look for functional testing tools.

Is there an episode of the Simpsons where Homer gets an autotyper to do his work?

Google for any program that records "keyboard macros". Thats what you're looking for. Used one ages ago aswell, to record mouse clicks for semi-automating the importing of 100 files into a program. You'd do it once and record the mouse movements/clicks and then set it to execute the recording 99 more times.
