    Hey all,

I need someone to help with some tweaking of an off the shelf classified ads package I bought in the US.

If you take a look at the demo at

    http://www.webscribble.com/products/webclassifieds/demo/browse.shtml

Click on the front end demo and you'll see all the categories and sub categories appear on one page.

What I'm trying to do is have the frontpage of my website with 3 or 4 main categories (e.g. Announcements, Business Listings, Personal Listings)

When user clicks on the relevant button, it goes to say the Business Listings main category and then shows links to the sub categories of this category.

The way the software is at the moment, it's a display everything on one page scenario, which is too cluttered. Support have told me it is possible but needs code written to display cat/sub-cat as I want.

If anyone feels they can help, please let me know and I can let you have a look at all the relevant files.

Payment is based on what you determine to be fair price for the work involved...

    Thanks
    Al.

Want me to put a copy of this in programming?

You probably should get enough responces here though.

I don't mean to sound too discouraging, but although it can certainly be done, I'm pretty sure you'd effectively be asking someone to build a fair portion of a new frontend.

I can't check for certain because there's no listings, but assuming the navigation follows you around like it does in the categories, that means every page in the catalogue portion of the application would need to be custom-built, so the user doesn't get dragged back into the standard catalogue; i.e. a front page, a categories page, and a listings page. And that's without even looking at it in detail, there could be a lot more too.

To put it in perspective, your coder's going to have to spend an hour examining the application before they start, and maybe another hour going through it with you to see how you're going to approach it. That's two hours before they've even written a line of code, and any coder worth their salt is going to bill you a minimum of €50/hour. That's half your licence right there.

With than in mind, you might be better off writing off the €200 (or selling the licence) and finding something closer to your requirements.

Again, just a little feedback. You never know, somebody might be willing to take it on, plenty of starving artists around. Good luck! :)

I think you might be right about having to write it off, but that bugs me no end!

It's ok for the moment thanks. I'll see how it goes here first for a week or so.

Webscribble support say they will have the ability I'm looking for in a new release so I'm going to wait for the new version now.

    Thanks
