This is wrecking my head. Never used this before. Have a borked lappie HDD only 6.4GB IBM Travelstar and i want the info from it for a mate. Instead of buying an external case i dropped into maplins on the way home for a HDD adapter. No biggie really just the HDD isnt powering on at all? Thought the HDD was really dead but used a good one and it wont power either? What am i doin wrong? Any help please

With the maplin one you put the 3.5in side of the cable into your motherboard. You then put the 2.5in connector onto the hard drive. Then plug the molex connector to your psu.

Nothing more to it. The only thing that could go wrong really is that you plugged the hard drive in the wrong way around... other then that ..

Ya as is suspected the mobo connectors are male and the 3.5 side of the adapter is male also! Any more ideas. I have plugged it in to the IDE ribbon and alll that and tried powering it on but not registering on the bios or anything. Its not getting juice? Checked the wiring and its fine? Maybe a faulty adapter!

I bought the Maplin one before and it worked just as I described above. Maybe bring it back into them and compare it to the other ones? Maybe you got a packet that was faulty or damaged ?
