The DS is to drop in price in America from $149.99 to $129.99 as of 21st August, do you think Nintendo will do the same here?
It's something I've said since the PSP date was announced, Nintendo are in a position to cut their price just at PSP launch and take the edge of Sony's sale. At the moment Nintendo know that due to Sony's incompetence they have a stranglehold on the Euro handheld market, but I'm also sure they see the number of pre-orders for the PSP (Game have sold out of their allocation already, for example). If they can promote their machine at half the price of the Sony rival, and remind customers that there is a release list packed with AAA titles starting from September, they might be able to take some of the limelight.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think Nintendo could do anything (even a Metroid release) to ruin Sony's launch, but they could certainly perform a nice coup on the market so that once the dust settles the DS is still on top.

Funny thing is Sonys name just carrys so much weight in the market today i doubt there's anything Nin could do to actually take market share away from them. Theres a huge market who buy playstation just cause its playstation.

Personally I aggree with Nin that it's aimed at a different market anyway. I bought a PSP in Hong Kong at the start of the year and at the time didn't even give the DS a second thought.

While I don't regret buying the PSP for a second there's beginning to be a lot of titles on DS that are making me seriously consider buying one (Kirby, Metroplankton, Advance Wars DS, hell even Nintendogs :D ), all titles that use the DS abilities to great effect.

Well the DS is out selling the PSP in Japan at the moment and it's because of some truly excellent games being released for it at the moment, especially the supposedly fantastic nintendogs which is attracting a huge majority of girl gamers. Can't wait for Nintendogs myself it looks like so much fun.

yeah, the name playstation has been a licence to print money over the last few years, but Nintendo have a chance to take back their own market, as has been said, they are out doing Sony in Japan and (I think) the USA, there's no contest in Europe (yet!). If they can ensure they can hold onto the handheld market and follow up with a strong and attractively priced (and innovative) home console they could easily make it back into second place.
I will be getting a 360, but there's little doubt that MS are making some serious errors in their launch. Maybe they know what they're doing, but Sony and Nintendo would be fools not to jump on top of these fumbles.
On the Nintendogs note, my girlfriend is not a big gamer (at all) but she loves the DS, and I imagine that Nintendo see the advantage in attracting female gamers. I just hope they don't turn their back on the male market!

eh It's nintendos market that sony are trying to take. Nintendo own the handheld market and they are outselling the psp somethin like 3-1 or 5-1 in the regions they are released in.
