    Hello,

Can anyone help, I am thinking of ordering from Ikea through their delivery service, I spoke with them over the phone, and they said that the service was good ( well they would say that) and that the order would be here in about 3 weeks.

    Any coments would be welcome

    Thanks

Are you ordering form England? and if so what are the charges like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

Are you sure you are using IKEA and not a delivery company who get the goods for you and then deliver?
Unless it's changed recently, you had to go to the store, collect and pay for your goods and then bring them to the shipping counter and give them the details of where it's going to.
The charges when I last used it in Glasgow was 100 GBP for the 1st pallet and 50/75 GBP for each pallet after that.
Delivery to the door took about 3 days.

as said above, what delivery service??
was looking into this only a couple of weeks ago and only way
to get stuff is to go to glasgow store as mentioned above and
then pay for delivery after you have bought everything...

very interested if they are now accepting online/phone orders.
    let us know

Look here for contact details I was talking to the Edinburgh store. The guy there said they charged £190 for up to two flat bed trolleys. He also said that they normally did not charge more if you went over this. You send them an email with your order they email back with the price. :):) .I was told they used a courier service to deliver goods.I have used Flat Pack Ireland before they have since folded but the service was quite often a bit flakey.

    That's very interesting.
Looks like they are trying to get the "Glasgow" shoppers.
It will be interesting to see what the charges are to get this service.
If it's not too much more expensive, it will take off bigtime.
Saves having to go around the store and do all the hard leg work yourself.

Can you post up what the costs are when they come back to you please.

I recently went over to Glasgow & bought a very funky complete kitchen for €1500 delivered (also bought a new car over there but that is a whole different thread!)- still waiting for it 4 weeks later but that is mainly because it was not ex-store stock. They did not have the online ordering service then (had a great weekend in Glasgow though!) so sounds like a new initiative but I would be inclined to trust them, so what if you have to wait a few days, the stuff is great price & great quality, beats rip off ireland! There is a flat charge of £190 which covers you for your first 2 "trolleys" but they count a full couch as a trolley! Every trolley after that is £80 off memory. The website does not really do the full stock justice so try to get your hands on a physical brochure & order from that.

Many thanks all for your help, I am going to place an order in the coming weeks, so I will keep you posted on the progress, I love their stuff, I have bought a load from them, having lived in the UK for a good number of years, lets hope this works....

I will let you all know :):)

For people who haven't done it.
    You can either
Get a cheap Aer Lingus day return flight (taxi 5 gbp to Ikea from Glasgow airport) or
Get a cheap(er) Ryanair day return flight to Prestwick, train to Glasgow, taxi to Ikea, tbh for what you save going Ryanair, its not worth the hassle.
It gives you 6/7 hours in Ikea if you want or/and there is a Shopping centre
5 minutes walk away across the road.
Well worth the trip as you can see exactly all the stuff in "apartment/house set up's" and you can buy it there and organise getting it shipped over at the same time.
Haven't gone to Edinburgh (yet) so can only comment on Glasgow.

Doesn't the NEW catalogue come out this month or next?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 250 ✭✭GP

    Hey Oki

Did you say 5GBP for the taxi ?

That was one thing I was worreid about because apparently Taxis from the airport really shaft their customers. We're doing the Aer Lingus thing, giong direct to IKEA and then staying overnight so I can have a look at Glasgow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

    Yep
The last time was actually 8 GBP (confirmed by other half) but I'm nearly sure the previous time, it was 5 GBP.

It will be interesing to see what happens to their trade when (if) Ikea opens over here! The staff in Glasgow call every Wednesday "Paddy's day" because so many of us go over on a cheap day return flight or ferry/coach on Wednesdays!

    Just mailed them and said:

Would it be possible to get a catalogue posted over? How much is the shipping and would it be cheaper for larger orders?

    and they said:

september at the moment you can look through our website www.ikea.com
for our latest stock. shipping starts from £50 for up to 5 small items

Taxi from Ikea Glasgow to Glasgow city centre is only £10, so cheap transport all round! We did Ryanair & train etc and yes it was a bit of a pain in the derrier. Can highly recomend a very funky bar in Glasgow called The Blue Dog - trendy but not rude, guy on the piano playing everything from ColdPlay to Shirley bassey. Really friendly staff & super cocktails. We spent hours there. 3 minute walk from the Train Station.

I know two people who bought big stuff from the Glasgow store and had them delivered here.....there was no problem with either delivery.

Woo hoo, my kitchen arrived yesterday! I am in flat pack heaven!

Couple of hinges were missing off the order but rang Ikea, gave them my receipt number & they are posting them to me today. All very hassle free.

If you are in Glasgow, super tapas restaurant called La Tasco on Renfrew St. Very busy spot, super grub & extremely resonable cost (in fact ridicoulosly so!) Drop in, put your nbame on the list for a table & head round the corner to The Blue Dog for some lovely cocktails.

    is ikea much cheaper?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

I've got stuff 3 times off them and the longest wait was 5 or 6 days.
One thing I have noticed is, how easy the items are to put together!
so much so even my missus can do it
    Instructions are exact and precise.
It puts Atlantic, Woddies and all the others to shame.

Have a look at the web site and see their prices

It took 6 weeks but only because I bought a kitchen that was not in stock & needed to be ordered in. I cannot fault them, they rang me twice with expected delivery times & it arrived (I kid you not) 10 mins late!!).

I went the full Monty, solid wooden counter tops, matching coloured glass doors, aluminium plinths, blah blah and all in (incl delivery of GB£230) cost me €1,500 delivered to my door. I could not have found such a high spec kitchen for that money over here.

Now my hands are raw from the flat pack assembly tonight (hence the late reply) and I have a weekend of work ahead of me, but the satisfaction of building it and installing it will be lauded at every dinner party to come!

Can't recomend it highly enough if you (or your bloke) is any way handy.

On the subject of IKEA, has anybody heard any more news on their plans to open in Ballymun, the last I heard the government was going to allow them special dispensation to build the store however that was met with the usual opposition from other business, oppostion politicians etc.

Is it still going ahead and if so are there any expected dates?

Page 5 of today's Irish Indo, article about them applying for PP by Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

Thanks for that. So if they apply for planning permission before christmas it will probably take another 6 months for a decision. If successful there will no doubt be appeals to An Bord Planala so that will probably add another year. Adding in construction we are probably looking a 3 years for them to be up and running here.

Wouldnt be holding my breath waiting for the store opening. They have pretty much full go ahead from the Govt now but all the property developers are squabbling over who gets to provide the site & build it + every furniture store in Ireland is gonna oppose the planning! 3 - 5 years is my guess!

We bought stuff in Ikea in Glasgow last Xmas. My kids and I were traumatize with the experience and vowed never to return. The reason was that we had to endure a 7 HOUR session because of the missus. ;) Other than that we got our stuff and they charge is £150 for two pallets (yes the price has gone up) The pallets can be stacked as high as you want. The Ikea also had a creche for 4-9 year olds (not sure). Delivery took 2 weeks. They also have a nice restraunt that is reasonable if you like swedish meatballs other than that its okay.
As for the taxi etc. The Ikea is only a short hop from Glasgow airport. Being the UK the public transport is very good. After the Ikea you can always visit Braehead shopping center and see how much we are ripped off over here. Ikea is in the same complex.

    Later,

    Scenic

Just back yesterday frpm Glasgow. Brilliant. I'm no fan of shopping (as 99% other men I'm sure), but I was there for about 5 hours and it was pretty painless. Kitchen will be delivereed in 4 weeks and all in at MUCH lower than any quote I got here.

Will be saving up for second trip!

    Hello All,

Well I have started the process with Ikea, I emailed my order to them Monday morning, I got a response yesterday, and for my order it will cost £350.00 for delivery, I was gobsmacked, I did not think my order was THAT big, I rang the helpline, and was told that its £190.00 for 2 pallets, however I would need 3 for my order, every extra pallet costs £160.00.. ..yes, thats £160.00. I tried to argue the point that this seemed very expensive, but it fell on deaf ears !!!. I today re-issued my order with items missing, to see if I can get it dowm to 2 pallets, I will keep you informed.

    Regards

    Hi

Just back from Ikea Warrington , Hired a Brand New Ford High Roof Transit from Thurday 5 pm to 10 am Saturday for €130 including Insurance from Local Ford Dealer - When I picked it up it had 40kms on it !, Dropped it back with 650 kms on it - Dont think he was impressed ,
Any way left home at 5.00 Friday Morning and got the 8.30 am Sailing to HolyHead from Dublin Port and by midday we were leaving Holyhead for the 104 mile Journey to Ikea Warrington , Arrived in Car Park @ 2 PM Exactly . Bought a Kitchen for 2 grand Sterling , Kitchens are whats called Full Service - All we had to do was pay at the Checkout and after about an hour all 5 trolleys were ready to collect at a warehouse about a half a mile away.
Went back in and spent another grand on TV cabinet , Book Cases , Plastic Storage , 2 Wardrobes , endless candles - Plants , Low Energy Light Bulbs etc etc etc . All this fitted very neatly into the Van ,

The Ikea in Warrington is Located in the Gemini Retail Park which has the Largest Next and Marks & Spencers stores in the North of England.Wife was very happy to spend an hour in each .
The Icing on the cake was the chance to purchase a large amount of seriously cheap booze in the nearby Adsa (20x330ml Budwieser - £12) That was a bargain.

Anyway @ 10 pm after a long day we hit the road to Holyhead arriving at midnight got and hours kip in the van and when we got on board @ 1.30 am we decided to hire a 2 berth cabin for £25 and got another 4 hours sleep , We got off the boat at 5.45am and were home @ 7.30 am , Completley exhausted but after putting a few small bits together feel the quality is excellent and that the 28 hour experience was well worth it.

    Costs

    Van Rental € 130
Stena Return €129 - Ikea Special Rate via stenaline.ie
    Diesel €70 approx

We went to glasgow in June a day flying trip and had to pay €300 delivery for €800 worth of stuff so I feel the ferry with a van is much more of a bargain.

    Hope this helps somone

    Regards

    Declan

    Hi all,

Does anyone have any more updated information about shipping costs for Ikea furniture from Edinburgh to Ireland? A recent order I put in (excl. VAT, apparently), was £1,800 and £410 for shipping (Contains sofas, mattresses etc.).

Does anyone think this is value for money? What cheaper options are there? Oh, I can't drive so renting a van simply isn't an option unless I pay some mate to do it. What about hiring a freight company separately and working out a better price?
