It was just on the radio that Eminem has pulled out of his European tour (including slane) due to exhaustion....

Hands up who wants a rock gig instead? :)

    This true, TmB?

No chance of getting any real decent rock acts to play at this late notice.. all the other rap acts planned besides Eminem will probably still play Slane.

EDIT: I guess it is true..

    From Eminem.com:
    Eminem Cancels European Tour

Eminem announced today that he will be canceling his European tour dates, which run from September 1st through 17th. Eminem is currently being treated for exhaustion, complicated by other medical issues. The shows are not expected to be rescheduled.

Thank fcuk for that. Hopefully AC/DC or Rolling Stones come in now to do a proper Slane gig and restore it to its former glory. Ian Dempsey was intimating that the whole thing was off and so other artists would be required or else there would be no Slane. He was also hinting at the idea of an all Irish gig - my personal feeling on this is NOOOO - sure we have some decent acts but no one other than U2 (however you feel about them) is worthy of or able to handle 80,000.

the mcd knobs did that with oxegen when bowie pulled out i.e. made those talentless gimps 'the darkness' headliners - bum deal if you ask me. oxegen is a lot different to slane though so I can see a refund in this case. come on people SLANE 2005 with 50 cent - no chance - I hope... then again they had Madonna last year

eh what if you bought your ticket privatly and you are looking for a refund can you phone up ticket master ?

doubt it as it will not have your name on the ticket.

I heard the United Nations public health arm the W.H.O. intervened and cancelled it, there was no way they were going to let 80,000 tracky wearing Wayne and Waynettas congregate in such a small area of land for a whole day, just think what effects it would have on the enviroment, all those cans of dutch gold being thrown into the rivers and streams along with the combined smoke from 80,000 packets of John Player blue, would create a smog cloud the size of the County and increase global warming. there was also fears of an Air Strike by the Irish Government, there was rumours that they were going to throw the USAF a few quid to Nalpalm Slane during the gig.

wouldn't surpirse me at all, I think they'll try to keep it with a rap artist or something to try to minimise return of tickets. Theres no way they'll bring in a rock band as I think a lot of the people going would return their tickets. They wait until next week to refund so that they'll have the new line-up confirmed before then.
Slane is a load of marketting bull**** anyway, its a hole of a place to get to and get out of, some legendary acts in the 80's but headline-wise it went downhill a long time ago.

They'll probably end up moving to a much smaller venue and not having a Slane this year....... perhaps they'll have a "slane" in the RDS or something similar. Wouldn't they problably be looking at making a loss of they only got 20,000 or similar at Slane?

    Aren't all healiners down(the)hill in Slane :D

Doubt that'll happen MCD will work out who'll keep the crowd at slane, too much money at stake with 80,000 people, no doubt they'll figure something. I have no idea about rap music but do ye think if 50 cent headlined, Eminem fans wouldn't go?

Big difference. Oxegen is a festival so the line up can change and that's accepted. Most people go to the festival for the festival rather than the acts - hence the preseales for Oxegen and Glastonbury before the line ups are announced. Eminem is a headline gig so if there is no headline there is no gig no matter who is supporting. According to the MCD website the entire event has been cancelled.

Also 50 Cent is booked into the Point the following night (Sept 18) by a rival promoter!!

Let's say concert's cancelled and refunds are offered.
I assume you get the cost of the ticket plus the ticketmaster charges that you paid when you bought the tickets?

Why not mix the rapper theme with the Irish theme... From my research I see there an Irish rapper nammed Collie. He could be the man for the headliners job. ;)
Irish rapper Collie, aka 24-year-old Dubliner Alan Collins, who has come to prominence on radio stations recently with his debut single Some Sham which calls in to question once more Ronan Keating's sexuality.

    ha ha.

looks like it's canceled, serves mcd right for not booking a rock act.

i'd say the residents are delighted

    From the ticketmaster site -

    * For tickets purchased via the Internet and the Ticketmaster Call Centre, refunds will be automatically refunded to your account.

Refunds automatically, doesn't look like they're planning anything else. An isn't 50cent playing in the point or somewhere shortly

Lol so does this mean that slane is actually cancelled then or will they have backup of sorts.

Just on the radio, some lad from MCD was on the news and he said. This years slane event WILL NOT TAKE PLACE! I know most of ye are happy about this, can't say i'm an Eminem fan but I do feel sorry for the people I know that were lookin forward to going. They're not all bad......

That means any of you who bought tickets "privately" stand to lose your money unless you know the person you bought them off, cos they'll be getting the cash.

You people make me sick, anyway, you selfish scoundrels with hearts of stone. You're entirely missing the point here. Poor Eminem is so worn out from being all that that he has to go back to his mansion and rest for a couple of months and take a break from the couple of hours of work that he might do the odd day. So I hope you mean spirited scrooges remember that as you toil for 8 hours a day in some underpaid, soul-crushing 9 to 5 each of the five or six days a week you work, think of poor oul Eminem ;)

    People! People!
I can't understand this negativity, isn't good music good music?
Even the Rock Superhero Tom Dunne gives Eminem airtime along with some other hiphop.
I don't get the jubilation but each to their own I suppose.
AFAIK MCD will be handsomely compensated by Eminem for pulling out.
It probably won't compare to what they'd have made had the thing gone ahead but I doubt they'll be out of pocket so I wouldn't hold out for any kind os Slane this year.

I pity the guys who paid above the asking price for these tickets over the last few months. There are tickets going on eBay for €200 or more for a pair, and those people have no comeback whatsoever.
