    HI Folks

Im moving to the states in Nov and I have been advised by the US emigration dept that I will have to get a full health check.

What I want to know is , has anyone here went through this before and what exactly is involved they have advised xrays and blood tests

What will they be checking for ..... is this normal standard practice.

    Thanks

They should have clearer guidelines, specifying what you need. You should contact the US embassy and ask for guidelines on what is needed

I suspect it is in regard to infectious diseases. In which case, you would need documentation you have received all your vaccinations and if you cannot provide these, then you would need to be revaccinated. They may require a blood test to check your antibody levels to those diseases to ensure you are immune.

The trouble may come with TB, almost everyone in Ireland is vaccinated and you need to have a mantoux test to check for your immunity. However, if you have a positive mantoux test (which either means you are immune OR have TB) - then you will need a chest xray to prove you are vaccinated, not infected.

This is normallish practise and really more relevant for people emigrating from countries where these diseases are endemic.

Hope this helps, you should get the full guidelines to ensure you have all the relevant checks done and your GP will be able to arrange them all for you.
