    Hi Barrie,

The best advice I can offer you is to check out your local library for a copy of Builders Detail Sheets by Sam Smith.

It has a lot of details both written and drawings on all aspects of building work, on chimneys it shows a lot of detail and in my view more important the reason why certain things are done the way they are.

    Hi Barrie,

I have been accused of a similar affliction by others, so I guess there must be some construction in my background :)

Seriously though for the Leaving Cert the book mentioned can be a valuable tool, to buy it I would think about twenty five euro though you might do better on Amazon.com or Ebay.

    Hi Barrie,

I have what amounts to a library of books some first editions including a set of diy books from the 1930's a very handy set of books but not relevant to the leaving cert.

Easons should have a book suitable to your course, you can buy a set of books on the building regs I think they cost about 100 euro from the govt puplications office Marlboro Street (I Think).

It could be a mistake to try memorising all the regulations as even the professionals like Architects and Engineers do have to check up on what appear as everyday regs to make sure they haven't been updated or just to clarify their memory is correct.

FWIW try staying with the course content you will have plenty of time available after the exams to fill in any of the blanks.

Best of luck with your project.
