    Nice work

Love the forks!! Very original and that is always a good thing. Would be good in a café.

For atmosphere, IMO it's on a par with the previous violin one.

    Like 2nd busker one

and for my own taste and delight in improving pics by cropping, I would crop the 1st busker in half vertically (around the wall line in background, which is handy) and keep the guy on the right!!! :)

Oh yes the silhouettes - I like the composition but on my computer, the outlines look too pixellated (if that's a real term), i.e. too angular where it should look curved . Probably fine on originals?

Cool, your right actually, it could look nice in a café, or even like in a house kitchen.

Funny you should say that, I was playing around with the idea. I thought I'd leave it in, and see what other people thought. I would agree with you though, and if you look here, you'll see I've edited it. :)

Thats strange becuase here they actually look fine, infact they are quite the oppisite of pixelated, they are slightly blurry.

Thank you for going through the photos, I really appriciate that. I'd like to dot he same for you. Do you have any photos on the net. :)

    My C&C:

Musician: Both are well composed. I like the crop of street session 2, but it would have been better if you could see both faces (the guy on the left just looks disinterested). In street session, there isn’t enough contrast between the guys black jumper and the black background. It’s a good tight crop, but there is too much black in the photo.

Silhouettes: Both pics seem staged, which I’m not gone on, but that’s just my personal taste. One of them has a lamppost in it, which takes from the photo. The guys posture doesn’t work for me either. He looks like he is looking into the hillside? The other one is better, but I’m wondering if they might be better in colour (while still maintaining the contrast. The placement of the tree in jump is distracting. The sky in both pics is pretty uninspiring.

Derelict: This photo doesn’t exactly jump out at me. It’s somebody’s messy back yard, but there isn’t really anything in the image to grab and hold my attention. Something interesting in the immediate foreground (shoot from a lower angle) would have given this pic the depth it is missing.

Still life: The still life ones are well executed. I like the texture of the forks, and the simple composition.

Looks to be the exact same!!

Nah, I haven't any on the net - not because I'm not open to criticism, it's a good thing, positive or negative, cos objective; I'm highly self-critical of my own so I regularly bin the baddies, crop/adjust the imperfect & grin at the good ones :D

Also, prefer to put my effort into taking them than putting on net!!

Well I couldn't really do much about how interested the guy was, to be honest I prefer the "Street Session" over "Street Session 2". I've resubmitted "Street Session", now it defiantly has much for contrast between him and the glass background.

To be honest, these are old photos taken on my old camera that I once had up on DA, then took down. A friend of mine suggested that I would resubmit them, I only intended on leaving them up on a temporary basis. Personally, I have gone off the. I do like the gradient in the sky, but as for the composition and subjects, they could have been done a lot better.

I'd have to agree with you, there isn't really an exact focal point of the picture, I do like the contrast though of the black and white. I will be taking this one off my gallery soon.

This in my opinion was my most successful of the set. I was surprised at how it came out.

wasn't being cheeky - worked the two links I was trying to compare were to one photo...No worries, I will look fowrward to the next batch.

What background did u use for the forks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp

Alright, sorry I kinda read your post a little wrong, my bad. :p

The background is actually leather. It gives a nice soft glow, but has a strong colour at the same time.

The leather was a great choice for backdrop, I think it works really well.

Some really good pictures, i love the silouttes, where is the outdoor scene taken by the way.

What kind or camera are you shooting on, film or digital?

Do you develop yourself in a darkroom. If so i'm very impressed with the different tones.

The outside one was taken in some rundown backyard in the rathfarnham district. I use a Canon G6 Digitcal Camera. I would like to try darkroom stuff some day, but i dont have a film camera at present. I am relativly new to photography, I only have my proper cam about a month now, so I'm just learning.

Thank you for the interest and comments :)
