Got off the plane in Dublin on Thursday and ran out to the taxi rank as i had to goto my office in Swords. Anyway I jump in the taxi and tell the taxi driver where i want to go and he has a heart attack. Starts cursing and blinding about only going to Swords blah blah blah. :(

So I said ok then I will get out and get another one. But he said no its ok but then starts again on the way down the road. He start saying I shouldn't have got a taxi !!! I don't care as my job paid for it but what was his problem ? Just cos it was a short journey ? Thats not my problem !

What, he expected you to walk to Swords? Did you take down his plate number, you could make a complaint to the carriage office.

I know they can sit in that rank for hours before getting a fare but there's no need to be such a dick to your customer.

He's just peeved that he didn't get a nice fat fare into town with some visitor who doesn't know any better.

Did you report him to the Carriage Office?

This sort of crap has to be stamped out. Half the taxi's in Dublin are in the holding area of Dublin Airport beside the GS looking for lucrative fares.

As a side to this I know of someone who got a taxi from the Airport rank to the GS, they were over on business and didn't have a clue where to go, taxi driver went nuts.

I'm sure it something really obvious that I should know but what's the GS?

I'm sorry it the Great Southern in Dublin Airport.

Bad habit of calling it the GS of when I used to work in that area....and no I wasn't a taxi driver :D

I'd report him to Dublin Airport as well, it’s their rank and with the bad press they get they'll do a lot to get rid of things that can get them bad press. As a former employee from years and years ago I still know quite a few people in there who are utterly freaked by the bad press they get that they have utterly no control over.

I've been abused by the Taxi drivers at the airport myself, I used to be taxing in and out of there extremely regularly and now I refuse to go the rank, instead I go up to the Departures road and get in a taxi that's just dropped somebody.

Chances are that the guy is a local and works the rank as well but your often lucky to get somebody who doesn't work the airport. But bare in mind (bear? Hurm… where’s the dictionary when I need one, consider) that they are not supposed to take fairs from the departures road so sometimes its an idea to walk in the same direction of traffic and try and hail them as you go, stick your head in a few windows.

Say, “Just Short one, don’t want to piss off the F***er’s at the rank.” And then the taxi driver will feel better about taking you. He’ll say “Yeah, no bother, jump in. Where to?” and then you can say “Wexford.”

I hate taxi drivers. I live next door to one and they're just as bad out of the car as in it. Pack of whiners the lot of 'em.

Bit of a sweeping generalisation there Philip.

There are some right **** driving taxis, I should know. The only person I have hit in the last 5 years was a taxi driver who intentionally drove at speed directly at a bunch of people (including me) but I also know some taxi drivers who are decent and honest people just trying to earn a living in an often unpleasant job.

Yeah it's a generalisation, obviously. They are whiners though.

When suppliers have to queue for hours to get a customer, this means the price is too high.

One reason I rarely use taxis at the airport is because the last thing I want after a long journey is to be locked in a confined space with a needy man spouting his ugly predictable views on immigration and pretending to be my friend before trying a last minute con at the end of the trip(the meter is broken etc.).

Off Topic, but does anyone know how much it costs to leave a car at the airport for 2 weeks? Or weekly/daily rate?

€70 (€5/day) at the long term car park run by aircoach.

This may work out cheaper for some than getting a taxi each way.
