If you're looking to buy less-common movies you can't go wrong with online buying. www.play.com have an awful lot of movies - even ones less common and they deliver for free and are normally the cheapest - especially if you pay the sterling price. Takes about 6 working days for delivery and if your order doesn't show up within 14 days they send another - no questions asked.

If not though check out this map (but ignore the red circle - just has to be there to show Pearse Street and Georges Street) - www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=53.3436&lon=-6.2613&scale=10000&icon=x

Get off at pearse head up round the front of trinity college go straight down Dame street and hang a left onto Georges street. 5 minutes walk from Pearse Station. :)

I think I saw some interesting ones in Tower Records last time I was in Dub. The one on the floor above Easons as you're going towards O' Connell street.

I have never had a problem with play.com or ebay when buying dvds. I have to admit though that play.com sometimes doesn’t have what im looking for. Ebay usually does though and I have never had any problems. Just make sure you buy off the right person.

Gotta agree though that Laser would be the best place to buy less well known DVDs. Where is MobileInfantry im sure he could point you in the right direction.

Laser is pretty expensive and doesn't really have an amazing selection anyway. Much better buying from Play. Only reason to check Laser is for randomly browsing and picking up any boxes that grab your eye.

so basically its a let down and i should stick to where i normally buy my stuff at dvdempire and sendit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,982 ✭✭✭ObeyGiant

It's not entirely a let down. It's still pretty impressive to have such a fiercely independent store, whose "world cinema" section is bigger than its "action" and "comedy" sections combined.

I just found that I was often left wanting with its selection - generally I'd go in there looking for something in particular and they just wouldn't have it. And, as I said, the price is generally wrong in Laser. Even on their more mainstream stuff that you can get in other stores (Fog of War, for example) is still, on the whole, more expensive.

    interesting

I don't buy DVD in stores, I use Play, CDWow, just online stores really.

But Laser and Tower Records have "rarer" DVDs. Tower Records have a whole world cinema and anime section. For rentals, Chartbusters have more "rare" stuff than Xtravision.

You'd actually be amazed what turns up in the preowned section in Gamestop....

AYe, Chartbuster pimp themselves here in Dundalk for having the best selection of Cult and World Cinema..But I buy all my DVD's from play.com - can't believe you've had trouble with play.com - I've bought well over 2k of stuff and only once haven't recieved inside 6 days..after 14 days they sent another - no questions asked..unless you order on like the 18th of December!

christ u must have alot of dvds?
Well, I've good few alright but also bought stuff like my xbox and then a stack of games from them for that aswell along with pc consumables - cdrs and **** like that.

But yea - quite a bit of stuff..its where most of my money goes - it depends what i do - sometimes staying in instead of going to the pub costs me more than going drinking if i log on for a 'wee look' on play.com...
