Hi, im trying to set up a remote connection with someones machine in the states from here. We both have PC Anywhere installed but have no idea what we need to get it started. Or how to go about it. Has anyone succesfully done anything like this before? and if so can you give me a hand?

I used www.whatismyip.com to find out the other machines IP address as its dynamic and changes everytime they restart but when i go to connect it just fails. What should i Try?

    Thanks

    Gar

OK, Do you have DSL connections on both ends? Or are you using dial up?

Also I take it you have the PC in the states setup with PCAnywhere & to accept connections?

Yeah, I do this all the time. Its very simple really.
Just set one machine to host, ie- to accept incoming connections on TCP/IP. Make sure to forward the 2 posts it uses, if you use a firewall/router. Find out your IP address.

Then set the other machine to connect to computer and select TCP/IP and enter the IP of the remote machine.

Are you sure you set the connection to TCP/IP on BOTH machines?
IF that still fails, try using IPX or another protocol.
If using IPX, make sure you have it installed in your network setup.

**EDIT: DSL isnt necesscary. Neither is broadband.
Ive often dialed up into places on my phone line.

Both have DSL yeah. The USA machine is using a Router. How do we find out the routers IP address? would that be the IP given out on www.whatismyip.com ??

Yup. That's the external IP. You need to configure your routers to forward whatever ports PCAnywhere uses. http://www.portforward.com/
