The BBC has a very good site that can get you started, watch a few games it's pretty easy to pick it up after a while

    The cricket basics

For newbies, I'd watch a one-day game first, in its entirety, if you can. As the result can be fixed inside a day, its probably a bit easier than watching a few minutes out of a Ashes test match thats on at the moment.

Watching the games and being patient is the key. It helps if you have someone watching with you who has an idea of the game but its not essential. I fell in love with the game when in Australia and am planning the trip of a lifetime to the World Cup in the West Indies in March 2007.

Btw anyone else off this board hoping to go?

Yes, to show how the game can be exciting, but that would only be highlights. They would cut out bad balls, no-balls, boring balls, change of ends, fielding changes etc... All as intrinsically part of cricket as Freddie smashing a 6.

As for 2007.... SSIA splurge?? :D

Partly that, partly some share options from work I've been building up from the job and havent used over a few years. Considering taking 6 weeks unpaid leave for it. You thinking about going DMC?

    The Rules of Cricket
The game is played by two groups.

The first group is in and the second group goes out.

Some of the group which is in, go out.

The group that is out, tries to get the group that is in, out.

When one of the group that is in, is out, he goes in and the next one goes out.

Then when all of the first group (except one) that is in, is out, the second group that is out goes in.

The first group now goes out and tries to get the second group, who now are in, out.

Only when both groups have been in and out twice is there a conclusion.

    :D

Its so far away (18 months), from this point in time, I cant honestly say. I'd like to see some prices/packages. I hear the West Indies tourism bods heavily inflated prices the last time England were touring.... Maybe the ICU might be organising something?
