I have an i-pod and cant put certain cd's onto itunes because they're copy protected.

I'm not trying to copy the cd or anything but there must be a way to listen to the album I spent money on.

Kings of Leon-Youth and Young Manhood, Ben Kweller-On My Way and The Magic Numbers albums are a few good examples of these albums.

Are you trying to use iTunes to rip the cds or are you just trying to listen to the cds on the pc?
Use a different program like Audiograbber or EAC, they should bypass the security on the discs and let you rip them.

Dick - sorry to nitpick, but how do you intend to listen to these albums on your iPod without copying them. Clearly you wish to rip the music to iTunes - in the case of these albums, you have to bypass the copy protection. Assuming you own the originals, this is not immoral, butmay infrige on copyright law (this varies from country to country).

In any case, I don't think the boards.ie forums are the best place to seek advice for this.

Generally, if you can hear it, you can copy it. But if it turns out that you can't rip them (to play on your iPod) or play them on your PC, then bring them back to the shop and demand an exchange or refund. Say you were under the impression that you were buying compact discs and you would like un-crippled versions of the albums or your money back.

Way-to-go the record companies. They're in enough trouble without shafting the people (even more) that are actually buying albums.

Or do a line-in record with audacity and split up the tracks manually.

why jump through those hoops to play a cd that you own?
even taking those steps to back it up would be out of the question.

Have seen EAC works on this type of CD. Wouldn't feel bad about it either - you own the CD

Hold down shift when you put the CD in, that will disable the security launching on the CD. If itunes won't rip them use third party software to rip to mp3 (Real Player and Windows Media will both do that for you)
