I have had this problem for close on a year now and as you can imagine it is really pissing me off now.

The problem is that when i turn on the computer when it gets to the desktop and is loading everything it says in a pop up in the bottem right hand corner"cd recording software may cause system instability"or something to that effect anyway.
When i go into device manager and look at the properties for my cd drive its says error code 39,that the driver is either missing or corrupted.

I need your help, anyone please help meany bit of advice may help.I am using windows xp professional and i know it isnt the drive because i tryed an different drive and that also had the same problem.

    cheers

    chris.

It is an LG,and it is a second hand computer so i dont know if there were any drivers installed,i know i didnt put one on.I have unitaslled it and then installed it many times but every time i install it the driver thing comes up,its plug and play so i presume that it is a windows driver that is causing the problem.

it could be the software your using doesn't recognise the drive or that u have more that 1 cd burning program on your system...could that be it

If the popup is a yellow bubble in the system tray then it could be the CD writing software doesn't support your writer. What software have you installed? Is it Nero smartstart or Roxio something or other producing the error?

Run msconfig and select the Startup tab to see what software is running at startup. Dissable anything CD writing related and restart. See if the problem goes away.
