Strange Problem

    I was looking at a Dell precision for a friend last night. It post'ok but immediatly(sp) after brings up the F8 screen for safe mode etc. Choosing anything from this the computer starts but then hans. If I cose to start Windows normally it stays on the WinXP screen. He left this going while he went to woek and cam back it was the same. I took out each stick of ram and tested each in the system. No problems. Tried a recovery from Winxp cd. Hangs. Tried reinstall from Winxp. Hangs. Its leading me to believe its a borked hard drive. Any ideas. Thanks.

    Sounds like a HDD thing alright...
    Does it always hang on the WinXP splash screen?
    Try booting from a CD (or diskette) and running a chkdsk - see if there are bad sectors on the HDD - if there are then this is probably the problem.
