Hey im finally getting around to replacing my 7 year old computer yey, i looked in loads of places to get a sweet pc for 1500 and this is what i came up with from komplett:

Samsung DVD recorder TS-H552U Black OEM
Norman IC, 1 year license Virus Control
    PC box
    SoftThinks Installation/Recovery
    EPoX EP-9NPA+ SLI,nForce4 SLI,Socket-939
    Logitech Media Keyboard Elite
    AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2GHz Socket 939,
    Samsung SpinPoint P120S 200GB SATA2
    Logitech MX510 Optical Mouse,
    Cooler Master Cavalier 3 Black
CNET Modem 56k V90/92 Internal PCI
    Fortron/Source Powersupply ATX 400W rev2
    Zalman CNPS7700-AICu CPU-Cooler
    TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024MB Dual Pack
Creative SB Audigy 2 Value, Bulk
    Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2
    XFX GeForce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3
Sony Floppy Drive, 3,5" 1,44MB Black
Logitech X-530 5.1 5 satellites and subwoofer 70 watt RMS

I was just wondering if there were any last miniute sugestions on things that i might need/ not need in there or stuff that would be better.

Also i was wondering will this run games such as doom 3 and half life 2 on full detail (or close to it) with a decent smooth framerate?

AVG Antivirus is free (personal edition).

Use the money saved on a quieter PSU?

Get an LG dvd writer if you want the best write quality (or Panasonic, but they're rare and expensive)

    Samsung SpinPoint P120S 200GB SATA2

You might want to check that SATA2 will work with your motherboard....

But samsung are a very good choice for a quiet computer (raptor for performance).

you may want a slightly stronger PSU just to be safe, and make sure its not Q-tec, if you don't already know

Seeing as you are buying an SLI motherboard , would you not consider getting this instead of the 6800 , its a double 6600 sli pack , thats two matched graphics cards running in SLI , an animal of a system for any game out there ?
Roughly the same price as well !!

Forget the floppy drive ( you'll never need it ) , get a USB key instead.

Wow thats a real nice rig ya got going there. I can suggest getting an amd 4000+ it would expand the lifespan of the PC a bit, but obviously it will cost ya. I would also be wary of buying an audigy 2 as creative have just released there next-gen Xi-Fi soundcards which will have a much better lifespan id use onboard sound for the moment and plug one of the xi-fi cards in when they are available
the XFX card is a nice piece it was what i was going with for my new PC until i saw the dual 6600gt gigabyte 3D1 which you might look into for better value (it does have to come with its own motherboard tho) - try gettin XP pro if ya can its a little better in the long run
    TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024MB Dual Pack
is that 2 512s or 2 1024s? i think u cud save some cash by just getting a single 1024 chip and in a few years time slapping in a second 1024

in terms of playing half-life 2 and Doom 3 your current setup will run excellently you shud expect a smooth 60+ fps on the higher resolutions and detail setings.

If you got a few more euro's to spare i would switch that motherboard, don't get me wrong , they are meant to be pretty solid motherboard's but i would go with a MSI or DFI board over Epox ANYday... Highly recomend it.

And Yes i would stick with a floppy. I am glad i got one with my PC... I did need it a few time's for clearing my MBR or flashing my Graphics card and thing's like that... I mean its only 10-15 euro... Why not ?

And i would stick to one single 6800GT over SLI 6600Gt...

SB audigy 2 Zs.... Get it... Its a beautiful card, New card being released ? ... Who care's... Its not due to be released just yet and Technology never stop's, Im sure after the new Creative card comes out they will start devoloping another. Also Why bother Socket 939 when AMD are releasing a new M2 socket ?.. who care's, May aswel make the most of today's tech so i recommend with your original plan of getting a SB Audigy 2 Zs, Lovely card to play with ;)

Yes agreed. Anybody know how much Amp's the PSU pushes on the 12V rail.. that's very important. For a Decent machine like that you are plannng on running i would spend a little extra toward's a Decent PSU like a tagan although they are hard to find on Irish component's site's. They only place i ever seen them for sale around dublin was maplin, A Tagan 480Watt PSU with around 28 - 33 Amps on teh 12V rail, cannot remember exactly but it was like 150 euro's which is radicilous. But anyway... you " might " want to check a different PSU out.

And stick with the single 16Pixel pipeline Graphics card ( 6800GT ). Will be a beautiful card.

why didn't you go for the dell outlet?? there was a lot of cheap xps gen 4 systems there..1500 is a lot of money for the spec below...if you are getting it..get 2Gb of memory..you'll soon need it

Anyone that knows how to spec their own PC from Komplett or any other parts retailer knows better than to buy from Dell , Dont get me wrong , Dell are cool enough if you dont know ( or dont ever want to know ) how a PC works , but once you can build your own you will always get a better deal by doing it yourself , no Dell xps will ever approach the standardisation and quality of the above parts list for the price.

ok i had typed out a nice reply to most people but my computer froze so i said id just tackle the issiue that i dont get at all, the motherboard.

ok as ive been told that the epox one may not be very good ive taken the liberty of making this lkist of alternitives:

MSI K8N SLI Platinum, nForce4 SLI, ATX Socket-939,4xSATA2,GbLAN,Firew,PCI-Ex16,
    Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI, nForce4 SLI,GbLAN Socket-939, 4xSATA, GbLAN,Firewire,PCI-E(at a stretch),
    DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 ULTRA-D, nF4 Ultra, Socket-939,S-ATA, GbLAN, Fw, PCI-Express,
    Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, nForce4 SLI, Socket -939,S-ATA,Dual-GbLAN,Firewire,PCI-Ex16,
    Abit AN8, nForce4, Socket-939, ATX SATA,GbLAN,Firewire,DDR,Sound,PCI-Ex16.

also just wondering if thers any point in ahving a sli board if your not gonna run two cards together, is there nay other advantages?

Well future upgradeabilty is always good :). If u decide at a later stage u want to run 2 u dont have to fork out for a new mobo.

I would for my first choice go for the DFI nForce4 board, there incredible and never hold you back, After that i would go with the MSI board, they are extremely Stable and have some nice feature's, You pick.

And there is probably no disatvantage of having a SLI motherboard, So why not get one ? You may just loose a PCI slot or something, thats about it...

The Coolermaster Cavalier 3 case , black , you picked is a BRILLIANT case, I recently got one, Very sexy and Brilliant Quality Build, Alot heavier then other's.

the whole idea behind SLI is for future upgradability, just as not all USB ports might be used, they may in future.

Also, with PCI-E, a graphics card doesn't have to go in the second 16x slot

Go with the msi. The dfi has the memory timing options and high ram voltage but have had a lot of problems and because of this they are bringing out a new revision of the boards
