    Hi,

Have lost a bit of weight recently, roughly 2.5 stone.
Rugby training twice a week and walk 4 miles every day.
Down to 15.5 stone but still want to lose more weight and have levelled off with the weight loss.
I'm healthy enough, had medical 3 weeks ago with doc and everything is spot on. He just said that i could do with losing another stone or so which i was already aware of. Here's the thing, i met somebody who i hadnt seen in a while who had lost masssive amounts of weight and i asked them their secret.
They said they were eating every other day and on the day they weren't eating they were just drinking water and a multivitiman drink for breakfast. It seems to have worked for them, is it a good idea or a bad idea for me to try it. Does it sound medically sound, what are the possible side effects. On their eating days they ate a healthy diet of 3 meals and cut out all the crap.
    Anybody any thoughts?

I'm no doctor, but that can't be good for you.

After loosing an initial amount of weight, your body will adapt to this weight loss and adjust your metabolism rate.

The idea of eating one day and not the next seems a bit crash diet to me, and honestly can't be healthy.

Sure you may lose weight by eating below your maintenace calorie amount, but at what cost.

Possibly try eating 5-6 small meals a day to increase metabolism rate, coupled with your workouts and exercise, you should begin to lose weight at a steady rate(1-2lbs a week). Which would roughly be about a stone of body fat in 2-3months.

With your workouts, you'll be increasing lean muscle which will help keep wight off during resting periods.

Perhaps someone else can advise better though

I don't like the sound of that. Weight loss aside it can't be good for you.

Not eating for a day (i.e. fasting on a regular basis) will have the effect of putting your body under a large amount of stress and causing your metabolism to slow and your body will begin to break down muscle. Sure you will loose weight initially but much of it will be muscle along with fat. Because of the slowed metabolism when you return to normal eating habits you will quite possibly gain a large amount of weight. Don't do it. Apart from slowing your metabolism it is plain not good for you to not eat for several days a week. You will be missing out on much vitamins and minerals (a multivitamin is not a supplement whatsoever for healthy eating) and could quite possibly become deficient. Instead stick with the exercise and if you want to loose more fat (since weight should not be a concern only the amount of body fat) I'd suggest you do some weights training to increase your muscle mass and thus your metabolism. This will help you burn more calories whatever you are doing and so you will with a healthy diet loose weight.
