How many people out there are genuinely worried about the lack of a competitive edge in the Premiership in the last two years? I'm a United fan and we obviously have done fairly well over the last ten-twelve years. However, lets be honest it was always exciting to watch and we usually gave the oppostion a chance. It is not exciting any more and there are so few matches that have surprise results. Its basically getting like the GAA- a hell of a long road to another Cork-Kilkenny final! We're wasting most of our money getting Prem Plus and Setanta to watch a handful of big games. I'm going to listen to all prem plus and setanta games on radio now and finally get a life. I would suggest a lot of you consider actually how much time you spend on the couch watching crap pointless matches. Anyone feel the same?

I like your rant.....you make a good point smile.gif ....But I still love watching footy matches Live ...yeah you can always know who the top 3 or 4 are going to be , but there is always upsets and amazing come backs in football. Liverpool are europeans champions after an unbelievable match ..and seeing the supporters crying with joy and hugging each other celebrating the win adds to the whole event....

I often listen to the sound of Five Live via the digibox and the hi-fi if a match is on RTÉ2 or TV3 — the best of both worlds. The Five Live guys beat all the TV guys hands down. Just wish i could do it when I watch Sky Sports.

They don't stream match commentaries on the net as they only have the UK rights to the Premiership.

It is blocked outside the UK when Sky have a match.

A very good point is buried here, and worth expanding.

Before last season, we had 66 live games on Sky Sports and 40 PPV games. Since last season, we have 88 live games and 50 PPV, plus the full reruns on a Saturday night.

Added that the big teams keep winning and no chance of the smaller teams doing well, we have to see that Sky are starting to kill the golden goose they made.

Mediocre matches are not what we want to pay our hard earned on, can Sky or anyone else stop them from playing pointless matches?

I really dont want to watch another season of Sky trying to hype "the battle for 4th place" or where relegation, for the most part is a forgone conclusion.

TBH, the dog fight that is the play-offs for Division 1 (the championship) are more exciting.

This is the first season I haven't bothered getting a PPV season ticket, and if the Sky Gnome is half as good as they say it will be, I'll get that for 5 Live.

Also, Newstalk106 in the Dublin area relay 5 Live's commentary in FM for the Sunday and midweek Premiership fixtures.

Didn't know that, I'm sure there is a way around that.

I love the 5Live football and F1 commentary, but I really miss Jonathon Legard on F1 http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/presenters/legard_gallery1.shtml
5Live football commentary is like a drug for me!!!

    DMC,
Thank god other people feel the same way about the Prem Plus ticket etc and the uncompetitiveness of the league. At least its not the passing of the years that does it!
Can I ask you about the Sky Gnome..I assume it means you can listen and switch the radio channels on Sky anywhere in the house? Garden maybe..Any idea when it will be out and how much it will cost?

I heard October and €150. Seems very expensive if true.

If it does not depend on having a Sky subscription it may be reasonable value.
It would be like having a DAB digital radio. The downside with Skyplus is having to subscribe to Sky forever for it to work! :D

I'm a united fan as well and I don't agree. There were plenty of surprise matches and in fact there was not one match all last season that you could comfortably say untied have it in the bag. This year I'm going to enjoy watching their return to glory even if that does mean them winning every game :D

The United matches may be exciting but the majority of the matches are mundane games which, lets face it, if they weren't on the box we wouldn't even think of the possibility of watching them.Sky just hype everything...
Remember the Lions being 30 points behind against NZ with 15 minutes to go and the commentators saying they need a try now to have a chance!!
Theres too much soccer on the box. if You subscribed to everything you'd never get off the couch and suffer from DVT...If more people didn't fall for the PPV and Setanta etc...and even Skysports at least the price and availability on FTA channels may increase slightly.. Next year in England you won't even be able to watch the Test Cricket without having Sky.... If we keep on paying it'll keep going up...and eventually..well I wouldn't even like to think what the price'll be...so what I'm saying is 5live is a great ,cheap option which you can listen to whilst doing other things in the house and stops the eyes going square!! :D

I dont really want to go on a soccer bend on this, keeping it on a television track....

I'm a United fan, and as exciting a United match can be, Sky won't be able to show them all, they can't. But between RTÉ and Setanta, you probably only miss 5 or 6 in a season.

More matches does not equal more audiences, in fact its the opposite for most matches on Sky last season.

Lads, I'm sorry to say that even though I started this thread I buckled on Saturday morning and bought a Season ticket! The love of my club , Man Utd won through again! Looks like a good decision now but who knows. Anyway else have a last minute change of heart!!? :o

I bought one last Wednesday night at around half twelve.

Was lying in bed watching through a digi sender and i think their advertising campain finally worked as i had no intention of buying one.
I bought one using the interactive system worked preety well. I had heard that people were having porblems with it before.
I worked it out that there was going to be 5 Liverpool matches between now and January so that was going to be €50 to order them so for and extra 20 might aswell get the lot..
