i have my guitar plugged into the line in of my pc
but even with pc volume set to max i can barely hear it
i know microphones get a mic boost option in windows to get around this
is there some way to do much the same thing for the line in?

mic in has too much gain and might sound like poo.

    try this:

    http://guitarfx.net/

funky stuff, bought the full version of the 1st one about 3 years ago. Impressive sounds if you are on a tight budget.

Mic pre-amp in consumer soundcards is usually awful - you'll have lots of hiss. I'd suggest you buy a cheap guitar multi-fx and use this to boost your gain to line level.

You need to but a DI (Direct Input) Box between your guitar and the computer, that'll be a start any way..... I assume you are at the moment taking the line out of your amp, that will remove the need for a DI but means you get sound from the amp and the PC, you can turn the volume down on the amp and it'll still output on the line out.... Dependant on what amp you have.

You could splash out and get a pre-amp.... Much the same.
