Sky Multiroom/Wireless TV Links

    I'm sure this has been asked before but couldn't find anything when I searched so apologies if its been flogged to death.

    Argos have a tvLink thats compatable with Sky and allows you to view Sky in other rooms with only one digibox albeit it has to be the same channel. It mentions that a co-axial cable is required between the digibox and TV's but a friend has one and reckons its wireless.

    Amazon are selling a Philips TV Link for about stg80.00 which allows you to do the same. This one is wireless which I'm assuming accounts for the difference in price.

    Anyone one know is the Argos version wireless and is the Philips one any good? :confused:

    No worries Caribs - I'll give you the short answer.

    The tvLink from Argos is a remote control extender - basically it's an infra-red eye that sends the signal from a Sky remote (in another room) back to the digi box - the catch is that you have to buy and install the coax cable yourself (i.e. it isn't wireless). There is also a cheaper supplier of that product, on satellite.ie.

    The Philips wireless box is a video sender and will send the video signal from any scart source (in this case your digibox) and to the receiver to any other point within the receiving distance (note that walls and floors can degrade the signal). There is also a facility to send back the signal from the remote, all the instructions are in the box.

    If I had to offer an opinion, I'd say go for the coax route if it's going to be handy enough to run the cable - its definitely the cheaper option. If the run ain't easy then go for the wireless

    Hope this helps

    S.

    Thanks Dr S, I had a feeling the cheaper option was too good to be true. :D

    Even cheaper then satellite.ie on

    Satellite.ie = €14.99
    tracsat.co.uk = € 9.99

    Check out the following link (in euros)
    http://www.tracsat.co.uk/catalog/tv-link-p-68.html?currency=EUR

    I suppose it all boils down to how much p&p they gonna charge ...

    This competition is very healthy another few price wars and we'll have them pay us for the instal :-/

    :D

    True, but us boardsies do like to support our own... Satellite.ie/Tony is a regular contributer here and I'd hate to see him done out a couple of euros - go on you know you want to :)

    LOL, thanks for that but I think the tracsat is a good deal and they have a good reputation

    Will these remote control extenders allow you to operate any device that is linked to the second TV by CoAx?

    For example if I had a Main TV with VCR and DVD and I split the signal to the TV with a Y Split to a 2nd TV in another room would I be able to operate the DVD and VCR with one of these?

    I don't have Sky but would be interested in one of these if it suited the above too.

    Thanks!

    This device will let you operate digibox only.

    There is another device on the market which lets you control VCR from digibox, then in this case also from the TV link.

    See phantom PVR device from
    http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page3b.htm#phantom

    Once you have this installed you will be able to control VCR from sky box, and those also from the TV link.

    But from a standalone configuration this is not possible.

    Hope this is of help. :cool:

    Thanks Player.

    Although I'm not using Sky digtal at all.

    I realise this is a Satellite forum and it might not be the right place to post.

    I've already run the Co-Ax so I don't need the wireless sender. I'm just looking for remote extender for my VCR/DVD.

    Does such a thing exist? I'd rather walk from room to room than spend €60-€80 on a wireless sender.

    There is a product called a powermid XL which I think will help you http://www.smarthome.com/8210.html
