Do hostels need to be booked in advance?

    Hey,
Going interrailing this week, general route is amsterdam-berlin-prague-krakow-bratislava-budapest-zagreb-split-rijeka-ljubjana-munich. Don't exactly know how long we will be spending in each place so can't book hostels at this stage.
Just wondering do hostels need to be booked in advance around this time of year and if so, how far in advance?
We are pretty much looking for the cheapest places in each of these cities, never going above E20, more than likely staying in dorms most of the time.

    Thanks.

The good quality hostels are always pretty full at this time of year so booking would be advised, even if you only a book a couple of days in advance.

You will always find somewhere to stay regardless of you booking or not but it all depends on your budget and if you are a fussy backpacker..

On my inter-railing trip last year, we used hostelworld.com for all our accommodation. We didn't book it all in advance but definitely a week in advance. The site is excellent and will give you an idea of how busy the hostels are where you want to go.

We went in August, and we didnt book any hostels in advance. Its all part of the fun, because you never know that you might meet really cool people and travel with them for a few days. And theres not much point on trying to stick to that route, because i guarentee you it wont work out, as i said you might meet people telling you to go to different places, or leave a place early and go with them, stay in one place too long etc etc.

    Youll have a blast!!
