Aspire 5020 problem

    Howdy

An uncle was playing around with his laptop today and put a phone memory card into one of the slots of the card reader on the laptop. The only problem is he can't get the card back out of it. I've been playing around with it myself for a bit and can't get it out either. There doesn't appear to be an eject button on the outside of the case. Inside the slot there looks to be a tiny little switch which I've tried pressing/pushing with a tweezers but the card still won't budge. I've also tried taking the card out with the tweezers but I can't grip it.

Anyone ever ecounter this before? The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5021LMi and the card reader is built into the case (one of those 6 in 1 jobbies). Any help would be much appreciated. Other wise this is going to drive me mental trying to figure out how to get the poxy thing out.

    Cheers
    Rory

All you need to do is push the card in again. It will spring back out enough to pull it out. Whatever way it works it relies on being pushed in further to activate the release mechanism.

The card is in as far as it will go. I tried pushing it in further but it hasn't got anywhere to go so it looks like the release mechanism is broken. Anyone else have any other ideas? Would opening the laptop itself and trying to get at the card work?

    Cheers

    /me points and laughs

Anyway, AFAIK theres no 'release' mechanism on the card reader. I just pull em out when i'm finished *snigger*

Dont think opening it is gonna do it any good tbh

Maybe not on your laptop but on the Dell i6000 there IS a release mechanism on the SD card readers so there is no need to try and act the know-it-all and laugh.

At least I tried to help the person rather then posting inane crap.

I have the same laptop, and I live with the OP in college, I consider it my right to publicly humiliate my friends in a public fora :)

How did attacking it with the pliers go!

ya had to do that before on a friends lappy! Got the pliers into action. The card was one of those short ones and he forgot to put the extended piece on it and then could not get it out. so the pliers were bought into action! Was some crack taking it out I tell ya!

Ah right. Apologies so. Thought you were laughing at my suggestion. Was pretty drunk and in a pretty bad mood, just took your post the wrong way.
My suggestion was based on the reader that is in my laptop the Dell i6000 which does have a spring loaded release mechanism.

Hope it all worked out in the end anyway.

Yeah I have the pleasure or displeasure (depending on how you look at it) of living with Peteee :)

Unfortunately I couldn't get a needle nosed pliers this weekend so its still stuck in the laptop. The guy who owns it said he'd get one and try it himself. On the plus side though the card now has a few knife stabs in it due to my enraged mood on Friday evening.

    Cheers
