I use a system information widget. The rest are annoying distractions. I'd kill for a proper offline spellcheck widget, though.

I use them all the time! Especially the currency converter. The old arcade widgets are cool too.

Bring up the dashboard and hit the (+) in the bottom left corner. Now you can kill each one you don't want.

    Teeth.

command to disable dashboard: (type in the terminal)
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
after doing this you need to restart the dock: (terminal again)
    killall Dock

    to enable dashboard:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO

    and again
    killall Dock

I love my Widgets!!! You can get some really useful ones on : http://www.dashboardwidgets.com/showcase/ and some mental ones....My favourite is 'Mirror' : Displays your face. Useful before office meetings and at home when the bathroom is occupied in the morning.

Have as many PERMANENT clipboards as you want for all your needs (pictures, texts, web addresses...) in a single widget: iClip I use it a dozen of times a day.

And a whole free encyclopedia in a widget, Wikipedia
