I sold a 6680 and the guy mentioned this to me, wierd thing is that I used it for about a week and not once did I encounter it, and I'm a very heavy texter...

Yes this has happened to me a few times as well. Only have the phone 2 weeks. Anyone know why this happens or what can be done to stop this happening?

There is a bug in the firmware, one of two things can happen

WSOD - White Screen of Death or Spontaneous reboots.

Advice is to goto a Nokia service centre request updated firmware as this is free and should iron out the problem, mate had the same issue and this worked.

alternative is to do a hard reset

maybe update the firmware at a nokia dealer.

Can they do this straight away at the service centre as i dont really want to send the phone away to be fixed. Its not that much of a problem really, just a bit annoying.
Also, will it reesult in a loss of any msgs, mp3s or anything already stored on the phone ?

You will loose all data so back it up and if your in dublin goto the phone store on dawson street opposite the mansion house will take 3 hours or less they are pretty good in there

I have flashed 4 of them in the last few weeks and can confirm that it sorts out the freezing problems, but if its under warranty, which all 6680's should be.....then go to any Nokia service agent and they will do it for free

I rang Vodafone last week to see if there's a known problem with the 6680's freezing etc... they said there wasn't.
Where are Nokia Service agents? Is that the Vodafone shops? My girlfriend brought her 6680 into a Vodafone shop today because all her txts weren't sending, they gave her a new SIM and said if it keeps freezing hold down the Menu button to see what applications are open, if there's a few open then thats probably why its freezing. But by the sound of the other posts its defo a firmware update needed.
I'm in Dublin so where would the best place to go to get the update?

All Nokia Service centres in Dublin:

    http://www.nokia.ie/nokia/0,,39352,00.html

Stay away from MPRC they are boggies,

    Telephone Centre
    Dawson Street, Dublin Dublin 2
    01-6776655

Tis the best one leave it in say at 10:00 AM and collect it at 13:00

I was told to come back the next day, and I asked if I'd be able to collect it later, and the guy said 'no, it takes 24 hours'. the guy didn't have a notion what 'flashing' a phone was. He didn't even understand 'firmware'..

You should update the firmware in your phone every year, or if it has a bug.
Updating the firmware can make the phone more stable, add new features and more important for people going abroad, it updates the network list with newer networks and there names. I have seen phones that still say IRL 03 or 272 03 for meteor.
