9800 pro is what you're aiming at there. If you're prepared to get an NVidia card, the 6600GT would be a better bet in that price range.

peats, maplin, pcworld, etc. all sell graphics cards, but at a premium. If you can get them online (see the sticky) you'll save money.

Check the useful websites sticky for hardware reviews.

    PCI-Express or AGP?
Is there any reason you only want an ATI card?

    WHAT?

    A x300 series grafic's card ONLY comes in PCI-Express - fact!
A Radeon 9800 series ONLY comes in AGP -fact!

If he has a x300 series he cannot use a 9800pro!
    DONT BUY ONE!

Make sure you buy a PCI-E (PCX) card m8.

    I recommend a Nvidia 6600GT PCI-E model !

Look HERE for an idea bout prices.

    EDIT:

bahh the moderator was quicker again :)

i since i bought a gamecube back in 2001 and i seen the sticker (graphics by ati) i trusted that they are good quality. the x box uses nividia and the only realy differenc i see in games is a few extra polys which u cant notice and faster loading times.

    Sure thing,

but IMHO the 6600GT fits your pocket nicely and gives you the
    best bang for bucks.

But check it out yourself HERE !!

Or type in google "x700 vs 6600gt".

Its ur money, just grab the one u like...

    Guh?
There are far more factors that go into a console vs console comparison than the graphics chipset... I'd forget about consoles tbh.
Which ever card you go for (ATI or nVidia), they'll both be going through the same API's (Direct3D/OpenGL).
Can't say I've ever noticed a difference in the rendered output of a game between ATI and nVidia... except for rare cases of a shader being interpreted differently or driver bugs.
Go for cheaper and faster, brand loyalty is for suckers.
I'd go for the nVidia 6600GT ... usually cheaper than the ATI 9800pro and still smokes it in benchmarks.

i think because ati make gamecubes card the games should come out for pc after a certain amount of time kinda like gta with x box. i go for brand loyalty cos they do offer more for less( sometimes ) is the ati X700 any good

    LOL

    do you read previous answers?

Do you think that those stunning Gamecube games will only run on ATI cards?

Please dont ask for other opinions when u have made up your mind anyways.

    SPAM ALERT!!!

I'm biased on the side of nVidia aswell as I've never had an ATI card but in fairness you'll probably never notice a difference between the two brands. Have a look in IT direct on Parliment Street. They arn't so bad on prices, could be cheaper but after sales is much easier in a brick shop if you need it. Personally I prefer the peace of mind offered by the local shop.

It Direct are permanently out of stock, but beat any sho[ retailers on price for what they have.

Ckeck the website before you go in
