    Hi,
I have one hard drive with 2 partitions on it, 6GB and 20GB, I want to make just one 26GB drive.

I've tried using Partition magic and click Merge partitions, it brings up a box with a choice of the 6GB and the 20GB but when I click either it says the drive doesnt have any partitions to merge:(

    untitled7ux.th.jpg
That's a screenshot of what I see on the main partition magic screen.

the 6gb one has my OS on it.

    Any ideas? Any feedback appreciated:)

far as I know you'll need to fdisk it and delete the existing partitions and then reset as one partition. Used that partition magic before and it can be a pain in the neck.

Way I do it is windows 98 start up disk, boot up with that and follow proceedure to reset the drive. OS will need to be re-installed that way though ..

Are you sure it's not two disks rather than one disk with 2 partitions?

    Thanks for the feedback.

That's a bit of a pain alright. There is definitely no way PM can just merge the two together? How would I go about doing the fdisk procedure (I'm a complete novice by the way, all I know about fdisk is it means formatdisk) how would I do it using XP?

like MrPinK asked, are you sure you don't have 2 harddrives. Open up your pc and have a look if your not sure. Thats what partition magic is reporting, 2 harddrives, not 2 partitions.

partition magic version 8 works well for me

The unofficial copies don't work well though , is it a licensed version or working trial you have ?

Are the drives NTFS or FAT 32 formatted ?

Is this drive a main drive , windows runs from this drive etc or does it just have data on it

Don't get me wrong - oit's a handy bit of kit and I'll use it when adjusting partitions re-sizing and the likes. Just never really liked it I suppose and I prefer the old and tried/tested method of fdisk/format c:/s with windows 98 statsup disk. I use that and I know 100% it's right, with partition magic I've never felt comfortable even if it displays what I required - user prefrence I suppose.

    Missed that 2 drives oops..

I'm sure I posted yje fdisk/format c:/s proceedure last week somewhere - think it was a thread requesting help on formatting a drive? last week some time.

Would be handy to have a simple stickie called say 'How To Re-install an Operating System - or Format/Re-install'...

I don't mind writing up the proceedure on how to do it...

if i were you i'd throw out the 6gig drive, its probably slowing the ide controller to ata33 for both drives, bet the 20 would run at ata-100 without it

in english - pc would be nearly 3 times faster

ps-how come i am the only one to rate your pic on that site

    Haha, thanks for the rating;)

yeah, if I knew there were two HDs I would have just installed the OS on the 20GB and sold the 6gb. Gonna do that now then!
    :)

Or you could just copy/move the partition to the bigger HDD with PM, save you the trouble of re-installing.
