I have been using the Mapopolis Maps for Ireland (demo version) for the last few weeks and fairly impressed.

Now I am considering buying the software for USD $124.

Basically for one year you can download as many updated maps as needed and the software is A1 and i would say it has 95% coverage of Ireland.

I am talking about the Pocket PC.

So if we can get a few off us together split the cost and share the maps could be handy, I am going to email mapopolis Customer Care about this to make sure it is legal aswell.

    http://www.mapopolis.com/home.jsp?v=c&pg=su&s=1123153191715272&p=&q=5

    So anyone up for it.

All maps are downloaded via the site and the whole EU Maps are 256MB in total and Ireland between 7 and 10 Megs.

    Mods is this Okay

    Cool.

Works out at 100 Euro after exchange give or take a few cents.

If we can say we can get 5 well cool.

Was talking to wolfman and he said he is interested, so that makes 3 counting me. So two more and were sorted.

sounds good, how much each, will the maps work on the smartphone version?

Do you mean Windows Mobile 2003, there is a Smart Phone section I will check.

Or do you mean series 60 Symbian OS ??

    If we get 5 x 20 = €100

But I'd say if we got more less obviously but not to many on the grounds that they codes and passwords for downloads could filter out, so five should be sufficient.

    FYI Guys:

The purchase of an online MapPack entitles you to download an unlimited number of maps from the purchased version of data for free for a period of one year from the date of purchase.

Immediately after completing your purchase you will be able to download maps for free.

MapPacks also include access to our state or country zip files for easy downloading and to our Major Roads maps for long-distance routing.

Have checked regards licensing and from a short but concise e-mail from mapopolis support there seems no problem, so happy days.

These are by far the best maps, I have used Destinator 3 , Tomtom version 3 and 5 and all are inadequate to this product.

They also have been updating the maps are are including the New Section of the M50 and the Western By-Pass in Dundalk, so seems good and the best solution at the moment for Ireland.

If I get all say by COB Friday, I will purchase Saturday and send all parties the relevant logins/passwords/redemption codes etc.

For lodging money into my a/c, I use AIB Internet Banking and PayPal if that helps anyone. To make it smoother

Out of interest, what is the coverage like of Donegal, do you know? Most of the map softwares for Ireland give Donegal the N56 .. and that's it!

Out of interest, do the maps you have include anything around Dingle? I have been using Mapopolis for a few months now and find the East Cost support fairly good and up and in NI good, but around Kerry was pretty poor. They have been rumoured to be about to release updated western europe maps for months now but I've not seen any sight of them. One thing to note, according to the Mapopolis GPS forums you are not entitled to download new versions of maps, only updates to the version you have paid for.

I have since discovered that the Copilot5 maps for Ireland are far better - at least they include the Dingle peninsuler which my Mapopolis does not.

I think both these vendors use the same mapping providors, it's just when they get round to releasing updates is the issue. Navteq are rumoured to complete mapping of Ireland by the end of this year. Who knows how long it will take the software vendors to catch up!

I will mail mapopolis support and find out, their plans for the adding of the last section of the M50 and the western bypass are almost ready to go.

Will post when I get a reply

Sorry Lads you can count me out. I was down the midlands today and none of it is on mapopolis. This is my normal area of operation. I ordered copilot5 instead.

    anyone else up for this...

good thing is you can try the demo maps to check out the coverage of your area to see if it is viable to do so
