    just had this hand

    I got dealt 3c4c

    flop 5c Ah 6c

    I check
    he bets
    I call

    turn 5c Ah 6c (7c) ........... :D

    I check
he bets big (I put him on 2 pair or flush draw with Ac)

    river 5c Ah 6c (7c) (9c)

    ! check
    he bets small!

now I know he is trying to trap me and entice a big bet, and I am hoping he has the Ac and not the 8c.

I think for ages and eventually flat call ($2 into a $60 pot)

    He turns over Ad 8c...

straight flush beaten by a higher straight flush :D

Is there any way i could have played it differently? Also I think I only flat called because I read on boards of something similar happening a while ago. Normally I would have pushed all in.

Did I play too cautious? I mean, how often will he actually be holding the 8c? Fair enough I was right this time but the chances of that happening again must be tiny!

I think I am reading about too many bad beats on PPP and im actually expecting them to happen now. Ive been playing way too cautious lately, folding aces, kings when theres big betting on a dangerous flop etc.

Yeah Rory that was me who posted about having the str8 flush beaten, mine cost me the guts of a grand though.

You played it well to not get all your money in but you have to think that most of the time your looking at an ace high rather than the straight. Its a similar situation when there is a three flush on the board and you have it k high and a raising war starts, you automatically go into call down mode thinking you r opponent may have it ace high, but majortiy of the time you will find them betting smaller flushes.

Did you play the main event in the festival at the weekend?

If this is the case, then you know for definite he has either the Ac or the 8c, and you think he would play either hand the same way. He was equally likely to be dealt either, but people tend to play aces more often than other cards, and eights less. So it is slightly more likely that he has the Ac than the 8c.

If he's definitely going to call you with the ace, then of course you should have moved in. If he would bet $2 on the end and then fold to an all in if he has the ace, then you should just call him. So it depends whether you think the player is smart enough to lay down the lone ace, not on whether you expect him to have it or not.

yeh i had a post up about it. Was doing great, got up to about 20K with 5 tables left. One of the chip leaders. " hands in 5 minutes killed me. Flopped middle set with 3 5 10 board, only for someone else to flop top set! few hands later got knocked out when my jacks got beaten by tens.

thought I played better than i had in ages but sometimes you just cant beat bad luck (and lucky joe o'neill!)

would easily have made the money if i had won either of those hands, or just not been dealt them! Had Merrion luck that night!

Sorry for being pedantic but that was in the 270 was it not? I assume the main event Mr.Pillow was refering to was the €500 Double chance on saturday.
