Crapped out sound card

hi the audio from my sound card has recently be sounding terrible. kind of slowed down and scratchy. after a lot of uninstallling/reinstalling and updating drivers etc, i found out that the sound is perfect if i turn off my eircom netopia modem(usb). the sound goes bad again when i turn my modem back on. ive got xp service…

ive got xp service pack 2 which ive read causes problems with the crad, but none of the fixes work

anyone have the foggiest idea why this is happening?

its a santa cruz turtle beach sound card if thats any help.
