Stay pale... millions of white supremacists can't be wrong!

But seriously, skip the tan and go for really pale skin and rosy cheeks to match the dress. Imo.

No no no, and NO! Avoid fake tan like the plague! It always looks utterly repulsive.

Okay, there's false tanned look and then the tangoed look. It's just really hard to get it right.

If it's troubling you that much I suggest ya put on your dress and take a photo of you with pale skin and then get something like Rimmel's sun shimmer and put it on (it washes off) and see which looks better. It just depends on your skin. You could have lovely ivory pale skin or pinky white skin which isnt attractive.

If you are getting the spray tan go a day or two before so you can wash the excess off and deal with any problem areas that may happen.

I'd go with the pale look though. Its coming back in.. I went pale for my debs (but with a hint of the rimmel stuff, Im in the pinky white catagory. :o ) Careful with the pinky cheeks thouhg, Ya dont wanna end up all Aunt Sally-ish.

In fairness, even when it isn't overdone, it still looks completely fake, obvious, unflattering and unattractive.

    Avoid all fake tan.

I'd say a nice light tan done properly (spray) would be lovely.

I don't understand why people always think fake tan looks terrible, don't you realise that you only recognise badly done fake tan and therefore don't realise that fake tan can work out well too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

God don't go pale.. Get a slight tan at least..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Civilian_Target

Go pale! Everyone at the debs gets a miracle tan and it almost always looks crap. Soo glad the girl I went with arrived untanned.

I like being pasty white tbh.

Tbh, if you're naturally pale then a fake tan is going to look really fake. Just use a touch of bronzing powder on your cheeks, chest etc. if you want a bit of a glow.

Pasty white for the win. The people have spoken. No fake tan for you, cessy!

I agree with simu, white with rosey cheeks would go well with the dress you describe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,423 ✭✭✭tinkerbell

Don't go for fake tan! No matter how many people say "you'd never notice a GOOD fake tan", take no notice. You ALWAYS notice a fake tan, even if it's really orange, semi orange or only slightly!

Don't follow the pack, go for the milk bottle look. Besides, pale skin is such a rare thing these days that you'll look fab, rather than doing what everyone else does!

Plus, from doing a survey of most lads I know, they all despise fake tan. If you do want to up your paleness to not so pale, sit outside for a while every day :) (Of course this doesn't apply when we get torrential floods, etc!)

Ahem, I would like to graciously add my support to "Don't do it". Just because you have an appointment doesn't mean you can't change your mind and take everyone's advice.

I dont think you should go pale esp with red i think u should try out a few different tans n see which suits u best. Why dont you try the johnsons holiday skin lotion for light to fair skin at least it'll give u a bit of a tan and it goes on easily to?

I presume you spent a lot on your dress. Spend some on some sun beds. Don't go in the week before and over do it. Go about 6 weeks before and maybe twice a week until you notice a difference. Don't get too tanned, just enough to darken your skin a little and so people don't really notice it's a tan, just that you look good in your dress. Sure sun beds are bad for you, but you won't be a regular user so I wouldn't worry about it.

im glad so there's so many anti-tan/orange brigade people out there!

    i feel so loved!!!!!!!!

pale pastey skin for the win!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

With the dress she has she will need a bit of colour. False tan can look terrible so maybe yuo could go for a shimmer tint instead, like Benfit's Flamingo fancy. I use that instead of a tanning lotion and it just takes away the paleness of my skin but doesnt make you look orange.

With such a deep coloured dress, being pale pale will make you look like a ghost and will look terrible in photos!!

Im all against the false tan though, and defo sun beds are a NO NO!!

    Wrong!

As Simu suggested, a bit of colour in the cheeks would solve that problem. The fact is, a bit of an orangey or bronzed look would clash with a deep red dress.

try the johnsons sun moisturiser thing, the one for fair skin

makes pale skin just look a bit healthier, like a tinted moisturiser or something, doesnt look like tan at all

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭b3t4

I'd have to agree with isolde, Johnson's Holiday Skin is the way to go. I use it and think its great. For any mishaps at ankles use a pumice stone to gently remove the tint. I find that the pumice stone acts like an eraser.

I was very much of the mindset of a lot of people on here before and would of always kept very pale. However, I've learnt that just that hint of colour is nice. I recently compared two photographs of my sister at two separate debs. In one photo she looks fabulous and the other she looked like a ghost. Needless to say in one photo she had a tan done for the occassion and the other she didn't.

    A.

I wouldn't go pale at all you will look like a milk bottle especially since most will have done sunbeds/professional tan for the night.

Do one of the other in my opinion. It's a good idea to go for a trial tan first take a picture of you in your dress before you go and one after you come back that way you can work out for yourself which you prefer.

Johnsons Holiday Skin and Rimmels Sunshimmer in Fair are both great.

Spray tan, pet. Or Fale Bake. You can get it in any department store and it's about E37. I use it, its very natural, doesnt streak and gives you a holiday glow as well. Offer on in BTs where if you buy the face tan, you get the body noe free. Just E37!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭bounty_hunter

    Again, boycott the tan!

But seriously, if you feel you absolutely have to tan, go for a tinted moisturiser (such as the fair shades of Johnson's Holiday Skin or Rimmel Sun Shimmer, as a few people have already mentioned) rather than an actual fake tan.
It will take the whiteness out of your skin without leaving you looking like you've been tangoed.
