Well there I was yesterday in the queue in the cinema in IMC Dun Laoighre getting a ticket for the 4.20 showing of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I was asking about getting a student discount and then it happened...

I turned around and saw THE EDGE! He was there with his kids so I was conscious of not swamping him. I just went up and shook his hand and he was really cool about it.

Just wanted to know who is the most famous person my fellow Boardsters has met. Mine is most certainly The Edge - I couldnt believe it.

I once played a gig and none other than Phil Lynott was in attendance.
We had a couple of drinks and a chat with him afterwards.

About 2 years ago I met Bono. My Mam is his cousins friend and there was a family funeral on that i was brought along to, when we were leaving he was leaving to and i went up to him and said "Sorry bout your uncle" or whoever it was and he said thanks and asked me my name and stuff.
That's the most famous person i've met.
I've met DJ Carey too, that was cool too.

Fatboy Slim, Zoe Ball, Dave Clarke, Josh Ritter, Shane McGowan, all of The Dublin City Ramblers, all of The Frames, Damien Dempsey, Chris Evans and Billie Piper, Mary Robinson (when she was the president), Stephan Hendry, Jimmy White, I'm sure there's more. If I think of more later I'll add them.

    Bill Clinton and Mohammad Ali.
I also met the Edge like the OP once - coming out of a pub in Stillorgan. Just said hello and good luck on the Vertigo tour (was just before the American leg kicked off I think).
Met a lot of "famous" Irish people... mostly sports people and a good few TV personalities when working in PR and marketing.

I bumped into The Edge once too in a pub. He gets around. Who else...Charlie McCreevy and a few other politicians. Jerzy Dudek, Didi Hamann in airport in Liverpool. Oh yeah Peter Reid & Kevin Rathcliffe (both ex-Everton players) slightly tired and emotional on a street in Manchester last year. Class!

I live in Dalkey so I have seen both the Edge and Bono and have spoken to them in the pub before. I have seen them so many times they are just average joes at this stage.

There are always big name celebrities around my place so I have seen loads of them not including the ones that actually live in Dalkey.

Hasnt this thread not been done before? I remember writing this before

that woman mechanic from fair city.
Jack Charlton he is one i actually met at a book signing.
David Beckham got his autograph while he was warming up when Man Utd played Shels years ago.

Was at a charity table quiz about 8 or 10 years ago and all the teams had a "celebrity" at their table. We got Colm O'Rourke, the former Meath captain. None of us on the team were GAA fans so we had no idea who he was until we asked one of the organisers, which only barely enlightened us. for a teacher he was pretty crap at quizzes.

Met Donall Farmer who used to play Father Devereaux in Glenroe in my old local loads of times. Nice guy. I also met William Gibson at a book signing. That's it, I think.

Living in the city centre I tend to see a good few famous people such as Ryan Tubridy, Caroline Morahan, Hilary Woods, George Hook, Brent Pope and some other rte actors/presenters..

Probably the 2 most famous people that I have acutally met have been Dermot Morgan and Sarah Jessica Parker...

Actually I was physically struck by SJP. When I was living in New York she accidentally smacked a door into my face coming out of a shop... When I opened my eyes lying on the ground with little tweety birds flying around my head, SJP was staring into my eyes freaking out thinking that she had killed me or something... She was very apologetic about it. I thought it was rather cool at the time. I had my SJP scar on my nose for a while, which helped with scoring chicks and stuff, but it has dissapeared now... bummer.

I jokingly said I wouldn't sue if she got me a part in Sex and the City, but that never materialised.... the hussy :D

I once sat next to Van Morrison in an Indian restaurant. He was with two model-looking women, but he wasn't interested in them and he wasn't interested in me. He only had eyes for the huge plate of grub he was holding in front of his face and pushing down his throat with the side of a knife.

Thom Yorke of Radiohead - interviewed him in Westminster

Ray Darcy - was in my local Xtra Vision once

Kathryn Thomas - was in Dublin

Julia Roberts - was making a movie nearby

Tony Benn - UK politician at anti-war protest in London
Peter Mandelson - smiled at me (made me feel rather uneasy) in Westminster

    Ray Darcy

    Pierce Brosnan

The Burd that was in laws of Attracton with him.

All of U2 (They were in the bar at work, when they played their new album in the car park.)

    All of the "NewsRound" Presenters.

    Jools Holland

The bloke that presents MOTD2 and Working Lunch (Adrian Something)

Gordon Strachen (Celtic Manager, works on MOTD)

The Bloke that does the walkers ads, used to be a footballer

A few other sports personalities (They come to do MOTD)

Always bump into news readers and say hello.

The chick that does London news, and the questions on National Lottery, Come and have a go.

Met Andrea Corr when I was in work experience in Ardmore

Rob, the breckfast sports news reader, said hello to him this morning.

Oh Kerry McFadden was in the airport one time I was, sat beside me with her Sprog, she was rather nice, the kid was annoying.

Girls Aloud, didn't so much meet them, but walked next to them at Comic Relief, they walked out of their dressing rooms and stood next to me when I was wandering down a corrider in a drunken state. Everyone else stood aside and bowed down. I was on the hunt for more beer ;)

Remembered more! Ian Dempsey and his family sat next to me about a month ago in Dublin airport. I made small talk, as you would with anyone in an airport situation.

Met Lots of Kilkenny hurlers. I don't think they are famous though, are they. Lots of them shop in Statoil. When i worked there, I'd talk to them. A few of them are arseholes. Some are alright.

Lots of other random people round and about work. Too many to remember.

    John
