Most likely the wrong place for this but what they hey, feel free to move me if it is.

I'm wondiering if anyone knows of a way to use Sky digibox and dish to get freeview tv? I haven't used either of them in a year but they should still work, even though there's no subscription. Anyone know of any way to tune freeview, cos it seems an awful waste to leave it lying there......

    Thanks

AFAIK free view goes through your Ariel so it doesn't go thru satellite so tuning your sky digibox would be impossible

Anyone know of any way to tune freeview,

You might be able to pick up FTA satelite stations which include BBC 1, 2, 3, 4, News, Parliment, CBBC and Cbeebies.

Or you might get a FTA card from someone in the UK.

Better ask someone in the ICDG section of boards

Have you looked in the hosted section on boards, under ICDG, SATELLITE? You should find a sticky giving you details on how to tune in free to view stations such as bbc 3 and bbc 4.

to get get Freesat, you need a FTV card. this will give you access to ITV1, ITV2, Channel 4, five. the cost is £20. cant think of a website address off hand but it is in the satellite section of icdg

Yeah, if you want you can order it direct off sky but you'll need a relative/friend in the UK and occupied counties to have the card delivered to, when you get the card to your Irish digibox get your Mobile Phone, go to call options and under "send caller id press NO", ring the number given with the card to activate the Freeview card for use with your box (it'll be a brit number so use 0044 code) when calling SKY say you live in LONDON, not Ireland but LONDON (once you have masked your number they can't tell)

They may ask for details about your digibox, give it to them and if they say "that is an Irish box????!!!!" You tell them you bought your box off ebay or you have moved from Ireland to the UK, now they will activate your card.

THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!! never, I mean NEVER insert your phone line into your box because if you do SKY can tell you are Irish and cut your freeview off (if you have a subscription and you do this don't worry they won't penalise you in any way) and one last thing, when you wanna watch freeview insert freeview card to get ITV etc. but when you wanna watch RTÉ and all the channels you may have subscribed to under your Irish address just insert your other card and sin é, all your old channels!!

First of all you need to go on line and get the freeview channel frequencies for ITV etc. when you have these press the services on your sky remote then system set up then add channels. You then key in the polarisation, frequency, symbol rate and FEC values according to your downloaded list and you should be on your way to some free viewing.
