Low / Inactive Thyroid and Weight Loss

    Hi

Is it possible for a man to develop a low thyroid problem which would affect the metabolism?

My nutritionalist says I have a slow metabolism which means I find it hard to lose weight. I am eating properly and going to the gym three-four times per week.

I am taking high strength B Complex vitamins and Lechitin to try and boost the fat burning in the body but that has peaked and has very little effect now.

I've dropped ten pounds but have hit a wall. Any clues on the low thyroid thing, there is a history of thyroid problems in the family (grandmother and sister)

go to the docs, get a blood test and that'll tell you if it's your thyroid. I take one pill a day for the thyroid but I find that if i don't go to the gym i'll put on weight. I haven't gone for a month(various excuses) and I've put weight on....doh!

If you have a low thyroid hormone level, then a simple blood test by your GP with results back in 10 or so days will tell you exactly where you stand. If it is low, then it is very difficult to lose weight and if low, normalising you will make a big difference - you will feel much more active and energetic.

Good luck with it. If it is your thyroid you'll probably loose some weight while they are getting your levels to even out!
