Mysterious weight loss?

Hello all, during the last week i have lost a stone in weight but i have seen no difference in my build or strenght except iv gone from a 34 inch waist to a 32 inch waist. I think this may have happened when i started doing the "six small meals a day" idea but im still baffled how i could have lost so much weight in such a short time, i eat plenty of carbs, protein and some fat and 1000-1250 of my daily calorie intake consists of milk.

I do weights every 48 hours and work on the same muscle group ( back, chest, shoulders, bi-ceps ) and bodyweight exercises such as dips and push-ups because its the only amount of equipment i have at the moment. I was shocked to see this weight loss because if anything iv been eating more than i used to and i did not want this weight loss at all because i do not want it to affect my weight lifting and i didn't want to lose any muscle mass. Could this just be the affect of fat burning of some sort?

I would just like to know....
    1) am i over reacting, is this a good thing?
    2) should i eat more?
    3) what may have caused this weight loss?

Just in case if your wondering, im a 18 year old male and 6'2 in height. I was 80 kgs and i'm now 72.5kgs in weight. I would appreciate any opinions or advice on the subject. Thanks - Cravez

It doesn't definitely mean anything bad, but a stone in a week is a lot of weight to lose. Are you only starting out on a weight loss plan? If so then you tend to lose more at the start than further into the program, but if you have been losing weight for a while now a stone in a week is very excessive, and they say that during a program of weight loss, if you lose more than two pounds in a week you're losing muscle as well as fat. If you intended to stay at the same weight and were not planning to lose weight at all, then I would be worried.

Either way I think a trip to the doctor would be in order, while it might be nothing, it might also be something.

The other thing it could be is a dodgy scales, I find home scales to be notoriously unreliable, especially if you get them cheap, and I find their reliability degrades even further with the passage of time - maybe go to a chemist and stick a twenty pence piece (or whatever the cost is nowadays) into the scales there to check that its the same weight.

VERY true. You should have a stack of heavy books or a set of weights close to your own that you can check your scales with. Always use the same scales. Weigh yourself at similar times i.e. do not weigh after training when you have no food in your system and are dehydrated. I can easily drink 2 litres of water and I reckon could be 5kg difference in weight being dehydrated, and hydrated with a belly of water.
Waist size can depend on bloatedness and water retention, beans and beer will blow you up

my weight fluxuates between 15 & 13.5 stone, one week Im 15 stone one week Im 13.5, now this only happens when Im not excersizing (I drop weight then too) but this is all just down to my metabolisim. Go to a doctor to be sure but it could just be your bodies metabolisim.

That could be the case, i just checked my scales after reading your post and it may be the problem. I will still go check out a proper weighing scale in the chemist however. I think its time maybe i got new scales for myself as well :) . I wouldn't jump to the chance that it would be cancer, but if i do continue to lose weight then i will vist my doctor. I just felt shocked when i saw another half a stone lost this morning and probably didnt check the scales properly so it might be the case of the scales.

I didn't start a weight loss program, im starting into lifting heavy weights and actually eating more if anything, and since looking at the scales my body looked exactly the same as it had when it was 12 and a half stone, my muscle size hasnt decreased either. I'm thankful for all the opinions but i feel it may have been a false alarm due to my ignorance. However i will monitor on proper scales if am losing weight. Thanks - Cravez

    due to my ignorance.

Don't be silly, simple mistake. Besides in a case like losing a stone in a week, its best to get some sort of advice, even if the advice that sorts you out is simply to stand on a scales in a chemist :)

Type 1 diabetes is a possibility. You should probably see a doctor, especially if you also feel fatigued all the time and have difficulty retaining water.

Sound's like you may have had fluid retention that could be due to something you changed in your diet, but all the same seek medical advice if any of the above symptoms apply. I used to lose a stone in a week if I started a diet, now I find it hard to shift even a bloody kilo.
