    Hi gang,
Just wanted to say a few things about the Poker Festival. Firstly I thought it was run exceptionally well, and everyone involved should be very proud of it. The dealers (who this morning were absolutely dead on their feet) did a brillant job, under huge pressure. Some of them looked like they never went home. Mark, I think just slept under one of the poker tables for the Weekend. The food was excellent, and we even got sandwiches yesterday in the Freeroll for the €100 game. Was a bit dissapointed that there were only 36 runners in the Omaha game, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing in it. Got a good stack early on but put my calling station hat on in one pot and gave a good portion of it away. Sat down in the €50 omaha only cash game on Sunday night. It rapidly turned into the €100 game. The poker gods were not with me in the tournaments but they were certainly there in cash game. Won a massive amount both Sunday and Monday. Am mentally shattered today, but so so happy. Thanks Mark for giving me the sweetest Ace on River on Sunday night. One thing that popped up from the weekend was Credits. When you are buying Credits off people for Cash what is the general rule on it (if any). What cash would you give someone for say €250 credit. Are deals done between the two parties or is there a general guideline to it. Any coments would be great and also feedback about the weekend. I gave full cash for €250 Credit on Sunday, (I know the word gob*hit comes to mind) I had just split the freeroll three ways €250 each and one of the guys had no interest in playing Omaha, and seemed anxious to get cash if possible. I was playing in the Omaha game so I bought his €250 to use in the Omaha game. It was after that Denise asked me what deal I did for the credit. The complete blank expression on my face spoke volumes and yes before you all say it, I obviously did come down in the last shower!!! Complete muppet. Anyway once again thanks to everyone for a great weekend. Atmosphere was great as was the banter at the table.

The Omaha F/O was enjoyable alright, agree it was a shame there was only 36 runners. The 45 minute blind levels and 5000 starting stack allowed a whole lot of play (still had 8 casualties at 25/50 though) and I was pleased to finish 5th after being down to 1075 with 17 players left. Hand that crippled me with 5 to go was having two open ended str8 draws and a flush draw on the turn only to have the river miss me totally. Crumbs finished 4th (and got my scalp!).

The 100/100 last night had nearly 100 runners and a first prize of 7000, not bad for the Monday game. Paid to 14 and I went out in 14th, Player X had a lot of chips when I was leaving, as did Collette, but there was a long way to go in it. Anyone know who took this down in the end?

Hi smurph. That was myself you bought the credit from. :) Normally I would have had no problem taking a little less cash for credit but the reason I took face value was because I was chip leader when we did the deal in the freeroll so I think taking the the credit at face value was pretty fair. How did you get on last night?

    Nicky.

    Mark,
maybe you need to bring a more aggressive attitude to the table, a positively aggressive attitiude mind you. You looked like you were under attack and expected to be raised any hand you played. Work on defending yourself against loudmouths and table captains by limping and then reraising. Lose the under siege persona at the table and bring the fight to them.

interesting observation, i'll take it on board so.
    cheers doc

    hope you don't mind.

wish someone had have told me that for a while, a year ago, if I put a raise in and someone put a huge reraise in, then they were certain to get my chips, because I was almost certain to fold. i put an end to that though. :D
    now they're fully certain. :o

So if you had had the shortest stack when winning a ticket in the freeroll you would have sold the exact same credit at a discount?

We didn't actually win a ticket. There were 2 tickets but the deal was to split the credit 3 ways. But to answer your question, yes because otherwise I'd be getting a better deal than the player who finished the satelite with more chips than I did.

It's a flat pay-out structure. If i offered you x amount of money for credit and you told me that you were chip leader when you won the credit, and wouldn't sell it at x amount of money because of that, I would laugh, heartily, in your face.

If you think that you deserved more than the other guy then you should have reflected that in your deal at the table, not in the price that you sell it on to a third party later

I never said I deserved more than the other players. It was an equal split and in selling the credit at the same price I didn't get any more or or less so I don't see what your problem is. Just so your clear on the matter Marq, I didn't ask smurph to give me 250, she just gave it to me. I don't really see the problem with buying credit at face value and I'd have no problem doing the same for someone else if I knew I was going to use it anyway.

I think he was just saying that this sentence makes no logical sense which in fairness it doesn't.

I meant to come over and say hello at the €100 game last night Nicky but I used up my break time smoking furiously, then I was knocked out. :)

Ok maybe I should have sold it for a little less. To be honest I didn't realise it was such a big deal, like I said I'd have no problem doing the same for someone else if I'm gona use the credit anyway.

Middle pair is a monster and I probably had some blockers to your draws. :p

I don't think you should sold it for less myself at all. I just didn't understand your reasoning for not selling it for less.

You dont understand preflop raising in plo????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

Nicky, you're a good tipper and seem like a good guy. I'm not picking on you. I just really didn't understand the correlation between how many chips you had in a freeroll and the price you would sell the credit you won in that freeroll for. surely one doesn't relate to the other.

I think the only reason that you should sell credit at less than face value is if you can't find someone who will pay face value, and you usually will.

I really hope you don't think I'm arguing with you on any personal level.

p.s. If you were a bad tipper, you'd know about it before I left the table. I'm the master of the subtle (and not so subtle) hints. My wages depend exclusively on tips and if I'm in a cash game and seem a little grouchy it's usually because I'm not being tipped. I always want Smurph on my table. Best tipper ever.

lol. I suck at omaha. :( but last night I was playing with people who raised with the likes of A944 single suited UTG so I was rather confused.

most of those under the gun raises are on the blind. you consider yourself lucky if you find a hand like A944ss.

Ah now marq stop, bring a tear to a glass eye. Considering you are my lucky dealer I have no problems giving a hefty tip when I get a monster pot taken in. How does the tipping work. Do all the tips collected get split with the dealers? The reason im asking this is because everyone would want to deal in the €100 euro game where pots can be 3K sometimes and im sure the tip would be good from the winner. What about if a load of people come in and don't know about the tipping thing. Can the dealer say something or is it up to someone at the table to point it out. I know that in some Countries you are not allowed to tip the dealer (shame on them). On the credit issue with Nicky let me clarify. I just assumed that you give cash for the credit you get. i.e. €250 credit = €250 cash. Then someone pointed out that cash is much more valuable because you can only use the credits for tournaments and can never cash them out. To be fair to Nicky yes I gave him full whack for the €250 credit. In fact I offered to buy the Credit off him for the Omaha game. I knew i was coming in for the €100 game on Monday and could use the credits for that. I don't agree with your comments Nicky about being Chip leader when deal was done. You were probably just a big blind ahead of us, and you know when it gets down to three players one hand can wipe someone out. I suggested the deal because it was a good chance to get into a €385 big game for €135 euro per person with the money we made in the Sattelite and also having the chance to get some scalp chips worth €50 a pop to get some more money back. When a deal was done the two tickets were split 3 ways plus €20 for the dealer, which was fair I thought to everyone. I used the credits, had a massive two nights in the cash game and am as happy as a pig in sh*t. Now if I could just find those winning lotto numbers mmmm.....

Our tips are pooled from all games and from that is worked out the hourly rate for the week.

So Does that mean if nobody tipped your average hourly wage would be ZERO?
