Hi. I'd be interested in knowing from people who actaully own a PSP as to what the battery life is like on the console?

So we've at last played our way through a full battery charge cycle. In case you don't feel like counting, the battery died after about four hours and fourty-five minutes of five different games and one hour of MP3 play. We didn't use the WiFi features of the system at all during this time.

I've got one and so far I've had absolutely no problems.

Well the power eally varies, if you listen to mp3s and turn off creen whilst doing this ive heard you can get more than 9 hours listening. Anyway sony are going to release new powerful battery so the psps processor can run at the 333mhz it shud be at and still have alot of battery life:)

Over here in New York on a J1 and decided to get the PSP. I took my time reading all the reviews, checking out the dead pixel issue, battery life, etc.

Luckily no dead pixels so far, plenty of grit and smudges stick to the screen though (get a good screen protector), but even if it had one or two i dont see much of a problem.

Anyway, moving back to the topic at hand. Drove down to "Philly" last weekend with PSP keeping me busy. I had it on and off during the journey and over the weekend and still have 30% charge, about 2 hours according to the power indicator.

I havent run it through a full cycle yet in one go (the controls can be a bit awkward and uncomfortable for long periods, so if you can manage to play for 6 hrs straight then good for you!)

I reckon its close to the 6 hour mark, bear in mind im playing wipeout on it which is a fairly graphics intensive game, so thats fairly cool. Ill try and play it right through a battery on the flight home (please dont let a trolley-dolly come along and tell me its going to cause the plane to drop out of the sky, although maybe the fact it has wireless capability might make it more of a risk than a gameboy??), but like i said the wipeout controls can be a bit awkward.

In conclusion, PSP has surpassed my expectations in all departments. The dead pixel fiasco seems to be more of a subjective issue, all the coverage given to it can make you somewhat paranoid scanning the screen, looking for little specks that may or may not be dirt. Battery life hasnt bothered me yet, maybe you should buy lumines as it *might* be less strenuous on the battery.

My only minor gripe is the design, which seem more concerned with displaying the large LCD and sleek case, and less on how it fits in your hands. My thumbs get a bit stiff after a while, maybe thats just me getting on in years :D

arthritus is a bitch eh :D

anyway, good to hear the good reports, as i'm shelling out on a psp, protective case, USB jazz, 512 duo stickamagig and two games on september 1st.

is that with volume and screen on low light on gaming?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 375 ✭✭Board@Work

no normal playing.. i was really impressed. but i think the volume setting was on low as it was quite difficult to hear people speaking in the movie

By default, the sound volume for film playback, even when turned up to full, is lower than the loudest music volume setting. It can be changed in the options though.

Anyway, I don't really keep track of time spent using it, but I use it for music/movies on the way to work most mornings and then maybe 30mins or so gaming during a lunch break and maybe again when I get home. I charge it on average once a week, and have rarely had it run out when I was wanted to use it. Battery life isn't the problem that many had feared.

Also, European PSPs are shipping with 2 batteries in the box.

You sure? Sounds like they are giving up a lucrative market there with batteries around $50.

No only one battery, if you look at the box contents on all sites there is only one battery:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,592 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Is that for the european version?

I've heard that the European value pack is coming with 2 batteries instead of the sampler disc/spider-man umd movie.

I read somewhere that european psp owners will get spiderman 2 for free if they register their psp on some sony psp site, dont know how true this is though

I asked somebody working in GAME at the weekend about the rumour that the European PS2 would ship with two batteries and she said as far as they knew it wouldn't.

She also let me play with their display model... my it's purty!
