  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

Unfortunately the "Power Users" section is down. I think it's a good idea, don't know if I could be bothered but I'm sure it'd have its uses.

If the dude on the front is in a band, I want to hear their stuff :D
I mean, imagine if cowbells became a staple instrument in the rock/metal arsenal!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Yeah, saw this a while back. Had a discussion about different cowbells on the way to a gig the other day actually.

Digitally modelled cowbells are complete sh*te, they sound fuzzy and processed, and dont have anywhere near the depth or subletely of a genuine, vintage '59 DaisyBell 5000.
Its all you hear on recordings nowadays though, and its a complete discrace, they all sound the same...

The Rapture make great use of cowbells live. Very rock.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭Mystic Fibrosis

I'm sure Einstürzende Neubauten could do something interesting with cowbells...

(Then again, they can make any instrument interesting)

The only instrument they refuse to use is the saxophone.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I don't know. I prefer the proper ones. Got one downstairs. Not fond of this whole modelling thing. They always seem to lack real "tonk", ya know?

i hear ya i'm using a flextone ...think a selection of real cowbells isn't that pricy so why go for one of these feckers... besides the novelty like

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Tried a RG2320 or something like that through a Flextone III. Very Meh!

Eh, I'd say that's a piss take site tbh J.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

sorry i was being sarcastic there not very well done i'm afraid..meh is the word i think (altho shouldn't be saying that when i'm trying to sell it)...its just the overdrive i have a problem with its a lovely clean and would really suita mild to mid od player but i like high gain...conallesque

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Conall doesn't have that high a gain though! The amp wasn't bad as such, it just didn't do anything for me. Neither did the €2300 RG though.

Sorry, it's too late to interpret sarcasm :p I do like real cow bells though ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

i'm totally void of emotion for cowbells...although baggio has a couple and u can get severly cool latin beats with em...ok well it lacks punch then thats more what i meant..i'd be more inclined towards a jem for that money...

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Wouldn't touch a Jem. I couldn't crank the amp unfortunately.

What would RATM be without it's cowbells? Honestly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

cranking doesn't realy help the flextone...i'd like to let u try it with the gmajor and a good tele or something its really nice on clean...i posted a clip before...i'd like a jem i have to say but if i was paying that much i'd probably get a prs or a lp or something...cowbells do add a lot to percussion but i just don't think they be essential thats all

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Always happy to try out amps ;)

If I was spending that much on a guitar, I'd get a custom.

No instrument is essential in music.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

always happy to try out anything :p ...yeah a cutom is the way to go never thought of that (strat or tele if i was getting custom although a jackon might just interest me)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

yeah not bad...thats what i meant when i said a jem ...they are really nice i must say

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Very metal but by all accounts, incredible!

Now, if I could just get some custom cowbells!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

bloody cowbells...what could u customize like besides the finish??

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Spoiler, go faster stripes, sound holes, neons? The possibilities are endless!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

your turning me to religion here :p do u know anywhere that dos them...altough it'd be as handy to diy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

if u could just put one of your ideas into motion you'd be loaded bud

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I could call myself the Cowbell Baron! Or Baron Von Cowbell!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

the second one is cool...what about senor tonk tonk

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Naaa. Anyone can be a Senor but not everyone can be a BARON!

but what about senor ding dong u have to want to be like him

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Not really. That cape could have been dangerous.

But the Beer Baron! He had a hat! I've always wanted a hat. Then I could walk round town, playing my cowbell*, proclaiming that I had a new hat.

*Notice how I kept it about cowbells? Eh? Did ya?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

i did and well done thats tremendous...i'd pay u to do that with your COWBELL once i could pick the hat...i think we scared kh off on this one

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Pick me a good hat and I'll do it! Playing my cowbell all through the streets!

Yes, I'd say he's rather confused at this stage.

    No, I'm always confused.

But you're still confused, so my point is valid!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

No it isn't. You said I'm probably confused at this stage, which suggests that I wasn't confused previously. You're the one confused on this matter, Baron Von Balloonenstein.

i'm glad i'm goin now i'm confused...we really should be doin somethin more productive with our timesies
