the download speeds are fantastic but browsing websites is much much much slower than dialup. downloading with speeds that vary from 50kb/s to 150kb/s but a web page can take 5 minutes to open. it is the same on IE and Firefox

i have cleared the cache, cleared cookies, scanned for spyware, ran a virus check and nothing has worked

in fact in the time it took to type this the Post New Thrad page isnt even loaded fully. any ideas?

Could be the Proxy server your ISP owns has problems. Try disabling it, or if its not selected then find another server to point to.

I've noticed that as well tbh. Ever since getting broadband. It just seems to hang for a while before jumping to the new page. New page loads like lightning in fairness but the transition is slower. Nothing major, just thought it strange at first.

    EDIT; BT 2mb BB

I found the same, im with UTV 1MB BB. Guys at the Broadband forum gave me some DNS Settings and things have improved.. anyone want them? I believe they work with UTV only?!

UTV has supposedly fixed the DNS issues.

    from utv.support
We had a major DNS problem caused by a combined DOS attack and a
master DNS server failure. No sooner had we sorted that mess out than
a really old (and well out of date) set of glue records raised a whole
range of problems with reverse lookups for our whole IP space. This
proved especially hard to solve as all pointers were aimed at the
brand new master DNS server (which turned out to be spot on). The same
day our mailstore perfomance dropped through the floor (so much for
journalling filesystems) due to an FS corruption. This caused huge
mail delivery delays, and required a shutdown of our mail platform for
about 3 hours. The mail queues then took several hours to empty.
Cunningly at the same time we had all outgoing mail nodes listed on
Spamcop (thanks to 'legitimate business' emails from our customers),
which really didn't help clearing outbound queues.

Support have been flooded with calls and my infrastructure team were
working flat out to get each problem resolved. Skipping through the
recent threads, I saw a lot of nasty side-effects of our recent
problems, but I'm hoping these should be fixed now.

Again, apologies for the lack of info posted. If you see any
    outstanding issues, please holler.

    FYI:

    * Customer DNS: All forward facing DNS boxes were DOS attacked, but
have since been upgraded & tightened. Monitoring since last week has
seen no resolution dropouts - that should be the end of the
    'stuttering' browser experiences.

    * Reverse DNS: Now working again. Each RoI dynamic DSL user should now
also have a valid reverse lookup (lack of housekeeping on our part had
left these very hit & miss).

    * Master DNS: brand new master DNS setup. Faster hardware, new version
of BIND. Should see the back of some recent virtual hosting issues.

No, I don't know what most of that means either! :p

There's a prog called Bind LE which is apparently a good way of working around DNS failure.

    Mike.
