As most people know, Windows is not the most secure OS, but even when you are using Linux, you should always have a firewall to keep your system a little more secure.

I have used many software firewalls on windows, some are better than others.
I have used ZoneAlarm, Kerio Personal Firewall, Panda Internet Security 2005, Sygate Personal Firewall just to name a few.

name your favourite software firewall here, this does not apply to hardware devices only to software that runs on your PC. This is also not limited to windows but mac and linux users can vote for theres as well.

I've not had a single problem since installing zonealarm, and its a cinch to install at that, best of all though is that there is a free version.

I like mcafee as it can track an attact via a map of the world so u know exactly where the attactker is

Used to use Zone Alarm until it totally f***ed up my system [a dud upgrade they put out some time ago].

Switched to Kerio and have never looked back.

My first line is the hardware firewall from the router,
Second is smoothwall installed on a dedicated desktop,

4 Pc's running windows, mostly black ice and outpost, zone alarm.

    Laptops outpost,

Linux boxes running suse 9.3 suse firewall,

    Pretty secure setup :)

OfflerCrocGod you run nothing at all what os are you running?

I've been using a 6 months free trial of Outpost Pro and haven't had any problems..

Handy settings of easy or advanced for those who hate their firewall constantly popping up and for those who want total control. It also has adblocking and limited virus scanning

Another vote for iptables, although I have been known to use/recommend Zone Alarm for the more Windowey side of the fence.
