for the violin one, i'd maybe have used a small piece of white paper to reflect a bit more light to reduce the very dark shadows

I find DA to be perfect, it's a well structured art database. It works smoothly for me every time.

I'm prefectly happy with the composition (no pun intended) of this picture. I think the quantities of black and white compliment each other well.

Thank you for all your feedback, keep them coming. I honestly appriciate it. :)

First pic is class, very sharp, and i'd agree that the composition is fine.

Second pic is fine, nothing special though.

Third pic is good, but if you could put something out of focus in the backround, such as, you suggest a fire or possibly a window, just to illustrate the relaxing thing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Kevin_rc_ie

the violin one is really good, the others are crap. i may use the first one as my desktop wall paper, with your permission of course

Well, I actually put a warm light there, see the orange/yellow glow? Thats the source lighting for this photo. I wanted to show warmth coming from an area, and te book (the reader of the book) sitting down in front of it.

I see the light all right, but you've conjured up a winters day in my mind by your description, and the light in the pic could be from the middle of Summer. Include a roaring fire and a snow storm and your laughing, lol.

Well, i didn't have a fireplace handy..

I'm losing faith in DA more and more everyday. Always times out on me. Also, most critiques arn't exactly helpful. Anyway, as said before the first one is great, but the other two are too much alike.

    thanks for the feedback timay.

I never have trouble with DA, do you haev broadband, that really shouldn't be happening. I would often go to the photography chatroom, and get feedback there/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,225 ✭✭✭JackKelly

yea, i've broadband. I think it's a server problem on their side. It's mentioned in the help section. Must be the luck of the draw. I constantly time out there. Ah well. It's a bit OT so it doesn't matter.

the pictures are really good. some of the pics in your gallery are excellent..

What type of camera do you have?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭Bamboozled

    I love the first one.

The second one i'm not a fan of. it doesnt conjure up anything in my mind.

The third, I usually relax the way you described it (reading curled up and chilling) and it didnt bring that same thing to my mind. It suggests (to me) more of a study thing, rahter than a relax thing.

Also, I agree with delly - the description told me winter, but the lighting in the background was so large and strong it seemed like sunshine through a window, rather than a glow or a flicker from a fire.

Good attempts though if it's your first time. :)

Thank you for spending the time to look at my gallery. I appriciate it man. I have a Canon G6 Digital SLR. I have it about 3 weeks.

Bamboozled: The idea is that winter is outside, and that inside it's warm (Hence the warm firey light in the back) Thank you very much for viewing, and for commenting on. It helps :)

smileygal: Short and sweet, I like it. Thank you for looking at it.

    :)

    the G6 isn't an SLR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp

in my opinion it's pretty good for the level i am at, and it was bought for me, so i wasn't going to argue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,225 ✭✭✭JackKelly

lol,who the hellers bought you a 500E camera? lucky dog

I like the composition and the lighting. Liking pictures is really a matter of taste. If pics are well composed and show a bit of originality then the rest is up to the viewer whether they like them or not.

I agree about DA and it is relevant to the topic. I've mentioned here before how it a pain in the ass using that site. It is really slow sometimes and I'm on the 2Mb package.

It's got to the stage that sometimes, depending on my form, when someone posts pics here, hosting them on DA, I don't bother looking at them. Too much hassle.

I'm completely the same. Most of the time i couldn't be bothered to look at them. Always timing out.

They do nothing for me. Remind me of those photos you get in picture frames when you buy them in the shops. But if it's what you're into, who am I go complain. Technically, they seem fine, but I severely dislike that sort of stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp

Well thats unfortunate. But i dont have a complaint. At all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,764 ✭✭✭Valentia

    But you took them ;)

It's funny but a lot of the picks I take myself I don't like. I get a bit carried away with how technically ok they are. I like creative, unusual, quirky stuff.

That's why sites like this (which seems to be acting up a bit at the moment) or this or this or even this make me jealous :(
