    Hi,

I don't know if this is possible or not, but is it possible to set up an automatic mail response - i.e. when i receive a mail, outlook automatically sends back a mail saying something like "Your mail has been received and I will reply to you within 24 hours" - I am using outlook 2003 for the first time, I can do it using Lotus notes. Not sure if outlook can do the same.

    Can anyone help please???

    Regards,

    Yep,

On your main outlook screen, double click TOOLS (to get a full list of options)
Then select 'Out of Office Assistant'

    Its pretty easy from there.

A rule may be better suited to your needs, I'm not sure exactly what's in 2003, but in 2000 there's a rules wizard under tools, it'll easily let you setup whatever options you want

This works best when using outlook with an Exchange server, as the out of office response will be sent as soon as a message arrives in your mailbox, rather than next time you check your mail.
Dunno how well this works when using POP3.

Good point, for pop3 you need to have outlook open. I'm guessing from the original post though that it's not so much a case of being away as it is just to let people know not to expect immediate responses.

Some POP3 servers (particularly those with webmail interfaces) will allow you to log in and configure an autoresponse/vacation message. Depending on what POP3 server you're using, this may be a viable alternative.
